Bulbs for behind clock / No backlight

I was faffing about with my clock because the light in the clock indicating the headlamps are on full has never worked. Side lights one does, but on the next turn for full lights nothing shows up.

Anyway, bought a bulb from the OPC and it was the wrong size, tried swapping a few of the other bulbs around and no joy, just the same.

Only I'm now wishing I hadn't bothered as the back light for the clock no longer works!

Anyone had a similar problem? And does anyoe know where I can get a handful of both types of bulbs that fit in there for a reasonable price?

:porsche:

Mine is never on when the headlamps are on. I only have the sidelights show up with green lamp, but on dipped headlights it goes off nothing else comes on. I've always assumed it should be like that

This seems to imply there isn;t one

Plus an image from ToreB's site.

Thanks Rob, who'd of thought that? Germans too!

So by faffing, for nothing, I have a clock that no longer illuminates.

For the instrument back light bulbs they should be BX8.4D fitment 1.5w
I purchased a few from Direct shopping 4U https://www.directshopping4u.com/product-category/12-volt
They only seem to have 1.2w currently though but it looks like you can get them on Ebay

Thank you. Have ordered 10 and will have a play around and see if any of them make the clock back light come back on

I am happy that my picture could be at help.

You are right, the green park light indicator goes off when turning on the headlights. As you probably notice, there's another green indicator light, similar to the turn signal indicators in the tachometer. This lamp is not used in Porsche cars.
Cheers,
Tore

tyinsky - how did it work out for you?

I *think* the top left portion of my clock unit has become a little dim - I suspect a failed or failing bulb.

  • 1. How many bulbs are there in the clock in total and where are they placed?

    2. Are they easy to replace? :)

    3. Which bulbs are required for a factory look?
Not so interested in the white LED look. Is the BX8.4D fitment 1.5w spec mentioned above correct?
Thanks in advance.

EDIT #1: a bit more digging shows:

"Clock illumination comes from the two yellow bulbs."
(courtesty of a post on Rennlist)

and these are labelled as #12 and #13

Looks like these are the ones:
