Have had an annoying whining noise from the engine for nearly two years, only audible up to about 2500-3000rpm, has never got any worse and had sort of got used to it! Anyway, changed my alternator, water pump, belt and idler pulleys (tensioner pulley defeated me :damn: ), all had been noted as a little tired by Hartech when the engine was rebuilt in 2017, all back together and whine has now all but gone
Not exactly sure which component was the culprit, the water pump bearing was not exactly smooth but suspect it was the alternator! Engine is so much smoother running too, no more whistles and squeaks from the engine bay!
p.s. Water pump is a pain to change, tiny hands would be a benefit!
