Interesting info from my indie advising last addition 3.4 996.1 using the same expansion tank (coolant) as 996.2. This is relevant as 996.1 genuine tank is £450, as opposed to genuine 996.2 £90.

Northway also confirmed shiny dual IMS on 2001 year 3.4 996.
(They confirmed to never seeing a 2001 IMS failure).

.. and with last addition 996.1 benefiting from electric engine/frunk release seem an interesting best of both worlds bridge across early 3.4 and later 3.6.

996.106.057.03 in my 200q C4 3.4l as well.

I wonder when they actually changed then?

Interesting. Could be useful. :thumb:

All I'd add about best of both worlds is I think only the 98' and '99 cars had what is deemed as the best coating on the pistons, but since 3.4s rarely score, the later type coating probably isn't a deal breaker on a 3.4 and at least you have the dual row bearing in there.

Would be good to get a definitive answer on the coolant tanks. £450 for a piece of moulded plastic is Porsche tax at its best. They really do know how to pee their customer base off don't they. :frustrated:

Although I don't think us 996 owners register very high up on Porsche's target market.

Thats intresting if it can be used as im sure at some point we will all need a replacement , and the patten parts seem to be poor quality
