3.6 C2 ownership thread

So the majority of the work underneath is now complete, I replaced the bolts/nuts and brackets that support the cats at the rear of the block, a bit fiddly without removing the pipes but do able. With help from my mrs working the pedal I bled the brakes, although the fluid is coming out of the calipers air free the pedal still feels awful although all the calipers do clamp firm, more work required there sometime.

Time for a break I think, will throw the cover over it until the new year, I still want to fit red seat belts and some 19" Lobsters although I think the wheel change would be better done with new lowered springs. The car is in original paint and therefore has a few minor stone chips to the front which I want to have corrected.

Obviously with all the suspension work the car now requires a full geo set up, its also booked on the ferry for Dinslaken, Cochem and Stuttgart next May.

So now to the wifes Boxster

Cheers, Paul

Impressive!

Excuse the daft question, but what are the dollops of colour on the spring for?

PS - Bish says hello :thumb:

I would guess Bish was sitting with his feet up !

His retort.....BES?

What a car, keep it coming! :thumb:

Boxster

Let's just continue this thread with photo's of your wife's boxster! :thumb:

So work on the Boxster never started and instead I started dismantling the house, kitchen out and a few walls and ceilings away for good measure, anyway with that now in the builders hands I've drawn up a list and ordered a few more parts for the 997.

Nothing that's screaming out to be done but better doing it as a planned job than an emergency WTF job :D

So from my local main agent in Kendal I've ordered all the rear coolant pipes, hoses, clips, AOS, idler rollers, tensioner, belt, oil cooler seals (maybe get a new BEHR cooler though), I've got a low temp stat ready to fit also.

Water pump was done last year and clutch 1k miles ago.

Although I've no fear of dropping the motor myself space and health are limited so I'll entrust this job to the lads at D&G in North Shields and ask them to take plenty images, the car is being taken over in a covered trailer.

There is a very good detailing company on the same industrial estate so I may ask what they can quickly do with the engine whilst it's out changing the alloy pipes.

The car will get a full geo and brake bleed while its there.

All the best, Paul

So early Fridsy morning my car was collected for a trip to DG Porsche to have the engine dropped and the rear coolant pipes/hoses replaced, as I have already said earlier while the motor is out it makes sense to change other items at the same time so AOS, low temp stat, oil cooler, engine mounts, belt and pulleys will be done.

I've also bought a set of -30mm Eibach coils so these are going on and the car will get a full geo before being trailered back home.

The lads have been asked to identify anything else that may need doing whilst its in.

Now, does anyone have a set of 19" Lobsters for sale, C2, 8" ET57 11"ET67 ?

Cheers, Paul

Car came back from DG Porsche yesterday, all parts replaced as planned plus one further hose, the often corroded rear brake line accessible with the engine out was described as factory fresh so left well alone, couple of new handbrake springs fitted, expensive little buggers !

Eibach -30mm coils give the car a much better stance, before and after measurements show a reduction of around 34mm, I believe the C2 rides 10mm higher than an C2S so its not scraping its belly.

As the car arrived home so dod Parcel Force with a set of used lobsters, initial checks look promising so may not need a refurb, time will tell.

Cheers

Wheels will look fantastic with dropped ride height

Just came across this post while searching for something else

Weldone you, thats some attention to detail 8)

Might catch you about oneday on a north east run out

Please be sure to post some after pics of the car on its new rims and springs, I am about to order the same springs for my C2

So after a week in Germany at Dinslaken and a few other locations the car had another deep clean and its fifth oil and filter change in 4.5k miles, it now comes out as clean as it goes in.

I've been toying with the idea of buying some black BBS CH-R but then decided to do my lobsters in satin black with a diamond cut lip, this would only work if the wheels were 100% true as I wanted the minimum machined from the edge.

So we set to and had the tyres removed then got the wheels acid dipped and gently blasted, my friend has an alloy wheel firm, we then offered them up to the latheand spun each one for true, I thought they would be ok as they took very little weight to balance, anyway all ran well so the wheels went through the powdercoating process before having the lip diamond cut and satin lacquered.

I think the black finish has lifted the red nicely, it picks up other black accents on the car.

Cheers, Paul

Very fine work as ever :thumb: Makes my very tidy C2 look like a mutt

Recently I've been collecting all the parts required to replace the front end cooling system, the rear was completed earlier this year with the engine out.

I set a search reminder on ebay for 997 radiators and checked those that flagged up, no issues with my existing ones so no great rush, eventually a new genuine right hand rad was listed for £100 or best offer, after having my offer declined the listing timed out. A week or so later it was listed again, at a lower price, or offer, stuck my offer in again and managed to get the rad for £65 + £7 postage.

I now I needed a left hand one.

For some unknown reason Euro Car Parts only list a right hand rad, Behr Hella oem, I contacted their tech dept and supplied the correct Porsche part number and asked them if they could cross ref their suppliers. After a couple of days they replied with a part number and said they had one in stock at a branch down south, £168, I would have to order it via my local branch. I know the lads there well and they had it shipped up to me at an all in cost of £109

When I bought the car I had planned to do the third rad so I have the full kit, bought direct from Porsche Kendal for about £92 from memory.

Over a couple of weeks a few random new hoses popped up on Ebay at sensible money and I added them to the hoard, its surprising how many people want more on Ebay than buying direct from the main dealer, in some cases double.

This week however I had too much spare time, looked through PET and ordered all the remaining parts, every hose, clip, screw, bracket, pipe and clamp required to replace the rads and A/C condensors, plus all new bumper fixings.

The current plan is to pull it all off, have the metal rad brackets blasted and powder coated, drop the alloy subframe off and have it vapour blasted, powder coat the ARB and replace bushes, check PAS pipes then rebuild everything as new.

The car will then no doubt need another wheel alignment at D&G

I'm hoping I can get the front bumper painted whilst its off and numrous screw holes 'disappeared' from behind the plinth , I can then fit a short plinth for my plate.

All the best

Top work as ever! 8)

I've just done that job, although not with as many new parts as you've gathered. Fantastic commitment. :thumb:

I want to use my car as intended for a good few years so I can't go restoration crazy as I don't mind cleaning the underside etc once a year, but not every time I drive it, which you'll have to to stop the crappy quality Porsche fasteners and things from deteriorating.

For a show car though, it's a great approach and must be mega satisfying. :thumb:

997

I had missed this thread and just starting saying to myself 'This must be the guy that the 944' when I read that it was you. Absolutely Fantastic Sir :thumb:

Long weekend in York and Sunday at Lotherton PCGB show.....then the drivers window regulator mechanism ate itself on the A1, part ordered to replace, thinking of SORN end of this month and get stuck into the front coolant system refresh.

That said the Dinslaken team are having an end of season show on the 13th October, different venue 20 minutes south of Oberhausen.

Cheers, Paul
