Porsche West London

I bought my C4s/2 from them in May 2017 with 55300 miles on the clock, it was meant to of come with 12months MOT but when I got it home, I noticed that it was due to expire in the December. I contacted them and they said book it in for one in the December for free.
I did just that, it passed with 56664 miles on the clock, so I did just over 1300 miles in 6 1/2 months.
Funny thing is when I collected the car, they said that there were a few advisories, both front discs & pads were close to the limit and a brake pipe had surface rust and all should be replaced, but nothing mentioned on the MOT as an advisory.
I never took them up on their advice and now I wished that I had made a complaint as I was under the impression that when buying from an OPC that they were meant to be up to a set standard or items replaced as I'm pretty sure that I wouldn't have worn these pads/discs out after 1300 miles.
Anyway, December 2018 I took the car to Hatfield OPC with 58400 miles on the clock and absolutely no mention of the above needing to be done, the mind boggles....

When buying a car from an OPC then the brakes should be no more than 50 % worn .. more than that is a 111 point check failure .

They are not going to wear out in that milage and the latest check said they were fine .. hmm ..

If people wonder why i moved from an OPC to an indy then the above is a good reflection i feel ..

Heres an example .. VHC .. i list the faults and what i consider to be advisory items .. brakes are difficult to judge as its down to the driver just how long they will last .. i also have to cover myself ..

So i put brakes worn will probably last till next service ..

Service advisor phones customer with my list .. comes back to me and tells me what has been sold ...

i point out the brakes will probably last till next service but might have the light on just before that hence i mentioned .. Possibly Last to NEXT service ..

Service intervals being 2 YEARS .

The response .. ive sold them now so you have to do them ..

Sometimes .. well .. only sometimes i want to punch people .. the above kinda gets me close to that .

We have to cover ourselfs im afraid .. customers have and will contrinue to complain if a brake light comes on a few monthes before the next service that you " didnt " tell me .

Dam service advisors then go and sell half worn brakes .. and now im back at the punching part so best i stop here .

Off the record WL will also admit they are not great but they say it's due to a different business model.

Saying that indies that many on the forums rave on about, I have or know many that have had issues with them even after spending major £. It's only when things go wrong you find out and usually judge on the service you receive.

No garage is perfect . i have seen the problems with OPC .. i have seen the problems with Indy .. ive worked for both .

All i can advise is try to find a garage you can trust .. that way when things go wrong , extra work is found then you know they are talking sense and not just ripping you off .

By that i mean .. sometimes things dont come undone .. bolts snap .. drill and tap .. which sounds easy but isnt always .

Fault finding .. its not straight forward .. we dont just plug in a tester and it tells us what to do .. i know .. i specialise in this area and it can be a pain in the ass to find the actual faults on these cars and trust me when i say .. we charge far less than what it took us to find and fix the fault .

This moves into the area of what we think is fair .

If we had services all day then we will make more money than fault finding .. again i get moaned at because of how long i have spent trying to find a fault .

Thats life .. sigh .

Example .. Cayenne and the rear heated seats didnt work .. pin,ed out the wiring , nothing obvious but i cant check the lin wire .. kept thinking it has to be a software fault ..

Used the Porsche tester .. coded it off then back on .. still inop ..

Used our auto logic tester and there was an on / off function for it and it was coded off .. .. coded it back on .. it must work now .. nope still inop but at least i had fault codes for the rear seats .. i had removed them ... didnt have that before.

Banging head against wall here .. what if there is a driver functuion that can turn these off .. nothning obvious but the rear window switch to turn off rear window activation was turned off ..

Turned it on and sure enough the heated seats in the rear now worked .

So .. the codeing had got messed up and the window off button also stops the rear heated seats from working ...

And im supposed to know this how ?

a lot of work .. a lot of pain and far more than the 2 hours we charged the customer .. if it was a service we would have earnt far more money .

Yes i know it comes down to money but we are just a garage .. no car sales .. things are tight and atm we need every penny .. to loose on jobs like this puts us in trouble of going under .. one less indy .. great for the OPC though .
