Anyone have any experience or advice on selling a 964 -C2 that is straightforward and cost-effective - my first thoughts are that I want to avoid any private adverts / tyre kickers at the same time would like to maximise the ££ in my much loved beauty ?

Im not in a rush however sometime in q1 I would like to release the ££ for another project
\

first question is- do cars sell for more ££ in the sporing/summer?

Anyone with good or bad experiences or any general advice would be great - Ive had the car for 19 years now and have forgotten how to sell one;-)

cheers

Find a Porsche Specialist that offers a 'Sale or Return' facility and have a chat with them.

They'll sell at retail and take a flat fee or a % of the sale price giving you the best £££'s available without having to do any more than deliver the car to them.

Time of year makes no difference for these type of models. Clearly it's all about condition and to give a price valuation I would need to know more about the car in terms of mileage/spec etc.

As long as you're not related to Dr George Eaton fire away :thumb:

The thing I have found these days is, dealers trying to poach cars for an SOR sale, they effectively stick your car in their showroom and take a percentage of the sale price or a fixed fee from you for the showroom space. I had a whole bunch of dealers contacting me when I selling a new Focus RS, fees ranged from £1-3k!

I'm not sure if they would do the same service for older cars, I'm sure porsche specialists will, no idea but I imagine where there is money to be had, there is a service they can provide, at a cost.

I follow the values on certain cars, simply looking for a good deal on cars I am interested in and I am not so sure on the whole time of year having an influence on the value of a car, a specialist car anyway. I can't speak for run of the mill Fiestas. etc. I would say that the market may slow down during Christmas and cars may float online a little longer, desperate sellers may drop the price but I suspect the buyer who has the cash to buy a classic which has bubbled in value won't be deterred by the season. Apparently worries of Brexit may be having an impact but for me, season, Brexit, a pregnant wife haven't stopped me from looking for my next purchase.

I think 964 values have softened ever so slightly in recent months, if that's the bubble slowly deflating, Brexit, Season, consolidation, I don't know. The right cars are still popping up and soon disappearing.

For me, I do keep my eye out for another 964 and personally, because of the age and the story they will already have to tell, I would sooner purchase from a private sale than a dealer who is simply flipping for profit. For a car of this stature, I see value in the history and story to be told, where it has been, possibly old pictures that could be dug out etc. As you have owned yours for 19 years, something quite rare I think, that's value to my eyes but perhaps not to others.

Personally, I like buying the odd car, getting it up to scratch and then moving it on, some cars stick with me but others, I get my enjoyment and move on. I do not think you would get tyre kickers on a 964 with a strong detailed advert, nice clear pictures and perhaps a brief story on where you got it, when etc. You will command the most ££ this way I think. Ebay and pistonheads have always resulted in quick hassle free sales for me, I have never had any messers and first to see has always purchased. I put that down to heavily detailed advert, pictures and making sure the car is in top condition upon viewing. Part of the pleasure for me..

What is the spec on the car, colour, miles etc? :thumb:

Blimey, if the 2013 £20k value still applies, let me know :floor: :floor: :floor: :floor: :floor: :floor: :floor:

Sounds like a great car, as I say, I would love it simply for your history with it.

aha good spot. M<y times have changed havent they?!

A good 964 C2 is worth a fair bit of money whatever market conditions are i.e. good or bad but people want to buy from dealers for peace of mind that the old car they are buying is a good rust free oil leak free car.

I've sold my air cooled for top money via 911 Virgin completely hassle free. They charge £4-5k depending on condition of car. They sold mine for £85,000 in less than 30 mins. Just have a chat with Tom who runs the firm and he's very easy to deal with. A good C16 964 C2 rare as hens teeth. I reckon in 25 years Singers will be remanufactured back into 964s so if you can hang on to it you should!

That's a big call. Not a chance IMO.

To the OP, i'd say £50k'ish. If it's as good as it reads then it should sell quickly.

does that mean people like me that have never bought a car from a dealer are in the minority?

all the bikes/cars ive bought have been those typically favoured by enthusiasts and im not sure that id be any more confident in buying from a dealer that they would be more oil or rust free

with that said, im quite mechanically minded and do a lot of work on stuff myself

On sell side I use an Indy to sell an old car is speed, certainty and not wanting to potentially entertain a tyre kicker looking over your PJ at your home.

Buy side different and if I was a newbie wanting a 964 I'd buy from a dealer. If I had Porsche's for last 25 years then I'd not mind where I buy from :)
