Sharkwerks 4.1 conversion 997.1 GT3

I had thoughts of doing a Sharkwerks conversion. Originally they only did a 3.9 litre conversion but now do a 4.1 version. There is an article of the 4.1 version in Total 911 magazine. Good reviews 540hp and 400 lbs torque.
My GT3 is a car I love and would love to keep for a long period.
Just got a quotation for the work just under $57,000. I'm sure it will be an amazing car. My engine is still running sweet. Its a lot of Bucks for horsepower. Could buy a lot of driving tuition.

My advice. Save your money, the mods you're suggesting won't improve the car to the tune of £45K.
But if you MUST do it, just go factory 4.0 RS/RSR crank, Mahle Motorsport 3.8 pistons and liners, a pair of Cup heads, some uprated cams from FVD and a 4.0 inlet manifold and a decent set of exhaust manifolds/cats exhaust system.

I'd respectfully suggest you DON'T use CTR developments as someone suggested.

That made me giggle that list of parts + installation must be pushing £40k as Porsche have hiked the part prices in the last 2 years?

How you getting on with your car?

Having arrived in a 997 GT3, via a (mapped) 996 turbo, I really do get why people would want more torque. Granted, on track, the whole ethos of the GT3 is to keep the engine spinning at 4,000 rpm and above, but there are times, certain corners, where things just don't quite stack up.

All of a sudden a car(s) with a bigger or turbocharged engine, that you'd just overtaken suddenly out-drags you up the next straight, only to hold you up through every single corner thereafter. Life sucks, sometimes.

If an engine needed 'work' then I'd tend to go down the bigger displacement route, but would be more minded to cut weight first.

Well I do like to amuse whenever possible J

4.0 RS/RSRS crank fairly reasonable, shells and thrusts very lumpy.
Mahle 3.8 liners/pistons approx £5k
A decent set of Carillos run to about £3k
Cup heads £1800 for a pair of M/Sport
Cams ? Use the guys you used, or go Shrick, the latter will cost £7k
Exhaust ? A set of 997 Cup manifolds with some custom link pipes to a standard 997 GT3 centre box should do the trick for sensible money.

Good to see progress being made, agree mirrors look the nuts :thumb:

I did a similar list but with all Porsche and FVd parts
Cup heads 1500 each £3000
3.8 piston liners £6000
RSR crank £2500
Con rod titanium £6000
New oil pump £1500
Crank case and water ports alterations £1000
Cams £3000
Gadgets seals and fixing bolts £4000 ( the little things add up)
Exhaust FvD £6000
Labour £7000

You can see why SW charge what they do

You might want to bin those tyres H - rears are from 2008 :hand:

Happy New Year N. Well let's face it, they won't be the first things to have been binned off the car in the past 9 months ...

That's uncomfortably true, but since you're having a spring clean, the fronts are pretty ancient too...

The build is lovely btw - you will be amazed at how much thought he's put into it & how tidy it all is now. Enjoy it properly when you get it back :D

Yep, MC's usual attention to detail, most will never see or appreciate the finer details as they're out of sight :

I'm sure Wayne will finish the rear tyres off on the rollers...

:yeah: I've seen loads of guys throw money at cars hand over fist in the pursuit of speed, yet never wanted to believe that they were the weak link in the chain regarding that pursuit.
Don't get me wrong, if people want to mod their car, crack on. But I always struggle to listen to people talk about their mods for performance reasons and they've never invested in themselves.
Smart move :thumb:
I've got a mate who is an awesome skier, the kind of guy who you'd think is an instructor, but without fail he gets lessons every year, high performance lessons albeit, but still gets lessons. I think the same applies to driving quickly on track

This. I threw the keys to my 993 Carrera to a semi-pro racing driver at Donnington to see the limits of the car pushed by someone who knew what they were doing. He was overtaking 997 and 996 gt3s left right and centre.

Darren have you decided what to do? It's a big investment... if I was going to do something similar then I'd rather have someone UK based doing the work (I'm assuming your quotation with Sharkwerks involved shipping your car there and back? Or was there a UK a partner who would do the work in the UK?)

I'm not sure the extreme weight reduction tips would suit your needs, especially if you like your car's refinement as-is. A no-brainer start point that will give you noticeable gains and make the car feel even more lively would be switching your seats for buckets (I went with Recaro Pole Position XL) and light weight OZ wheels. I'd say start with those 2 simple mods and then go from there... :thumb:

Hi Roro
No the price did not include shipping.
It's too expensive.you can't realy use all the power on the road in the uk.
I do like the Ida of replacing my heavy fully electric seats for buckets . How easy to swop the seats over and did the seats come with the runners.
Darren

I think HSC911 has some carbon seats sitting spare......as you do. Drop him a PM :thumb:

That's a good question... did mine years ago and can't really remember. I bought aftermarket runners which were supposed to fit straight out the box but they didn't (possibly OMP from memory), so had to get them fitted by a specialist (Matt @ Porschacare), and I remember it being a bit of a pfaff even for him at the time. Things may have improved since then though. Cunno was my go-to man for seats + fitting info, maybe drop him a PM he knows his onions on the 997.1 GT3. Changing the seats is a good mod, you'll feel the difference in the drive straight away, same with the wheels, the latter being the first thing I'd change though if doing it over again
