Drivers door not opening from the outside?

This morning the drivers door wouldn't open with the outside door handle. Unlocked fine with the central locking and the glass drops when you lift the handle but nothing else. It opened when I went around to the passenger side and opened it from the inside.

I've found a post of rennlist that mentioned a circlip but the link to the actually fix was dead.

Any clues?

Thanks

Hi,

Take a look at this thread : http://911uk.com/viewtopic.php?p=1392697&highlight=#1392697

The part that failed in my case, was number 9 in this diagram:

Hope this helps!

Perfect thanks, let's hope it's that!

please please please disconnect the wiring in the door before you start messing with the lock/door handle....

I got my hand trapped by the window for quite some time before i managed to free it, with a nice bruise to show for it

I had the same issue on a 997. It was a bolt which had failed and is a common fault according to my specialist who charged £100 including VAT last May.

Ill second that .. DO IT !!! There is no roll back / safety function on the downwards operation .. removeing the lock whilst wiring plugged in is the same as holding the key in the lock to raise or lower the windows .. in this case it WILL be lower .

Broken or disconnected rod .. disconnected if it has been worked on previously.

Handle has a micro switch which drops the window but there does need to be a physical connection between the handle and the door lock to work .

Finally got around to looking at this yesterday and yes it was number 9 that had come out of number 12. It was a job a small handed gynaecologist would have struggled with but I glued it back in with a blob of JB Weld and all seems good.

Thanks for the advise.

The outer part of number 12 is a plastic sleeve .. it slides over number 9 to lock it in place ..

Forgot to mention this before

Its normally only in the wrong place if someone has worked on it previously .

Aha, I didn't suss that bit out. I've left the door card off until I was sure it had worked so I'll try and slide it back over, unless it's all totally gummed up!
