Good work indeed. Thumb
I've had water pump, LTT, plugs, coilpacks and engine mounts changed this year too. I would've saved myself a fortune if I was as competent/confident as yourself with a spanner. As it was, I took it to Bavaria Autowerk for most of it and am still eating beans on toast for the foreseeable..!

OUCH!!! If id known you were so close I could of helped...I have tried a couple of so called specialists in the area and nearby but wasn't happy with the work so even though I'm not a trained mechanic I would rather give it a go myself and have worked on my cars and bikes since I decided to change the engine on my brothers Vauxhall Shoveit in the early 90's (did on the driveway and after he got an automatic engine first without realising we did get it right altho it took a week!!)
Basically if a job needs doing I will give it a try if I think I can and just read up and research as much as possible then give it a go... so far nothing major has gone wrong but the odd spanner has flown across the garage with a volley of swear words ( especially when I changed the exhaust manifolds the other year and a few bolts sheared off)

Work is methodical, meticulous and nicely photographed. Look forwards to the next stages. Very Happy

P.S. good point from deMort - start the car after each section of work is completed - I haven't always in the past and have lost all reference points when things don't go as expected  nooo

thumbsup Thanks very much.. I have used the forum a lot for information and peoples experience so thought it would be good to return the favour

So today it was time to take the sill covers off and to clean them up and check behind them for any rust.. took both sills off and found some small spots of rust developing near the rear jacking points so treated the rust and gave it a good brush to clean things up then gave it a coat of underseal.
One of the sill covers had a large split in, right on the arch and also a hole had been punched thru at some point so it was out with the fibre glass and repaired it from the reverse so now its looking as good as new... tomorrow will be starting on the points on the wheel arches where the stones seem to chip it quite badly and then start rusting up, I think it will be a case of trying to prevent further damage as opposed to fixing it perfectly at this time.
few more pics to bore you following...
