Been a lurker for a while but am now a few months into ownership of my first 911.

So thought I would introduce myself with a few pictures at least!

The car is a 2010 2S, PDK.

Unfortunately I don't have any nice pictures of the car yet so will start with some cleaning/ maintenance that I have been busy with this week. (after taking inspiration from some fantastic threads on here)

I did Front top mounts as they were knackered and after decided I wanted to do the backs as likely the same age and I plan on keeping the car a long time. (didn't take any photos of this as I was too busy wrestling the stuts)

While doing this I took the opportunity to clean out all the wheel arches and under trays. The rear arch liners were hiding alot of crud..

I used one of those brush attachments for a drill and an air line to blast away anything that was left.

All the under trays came off covering me and the garage floor in half a bag of gravel. This gave me a good chance to have a look around underneath especially at the rear coolant hoses which thankfully are showing no signs of corrosion unlike the fronts.

Only things showing noticeable corrosion are 2 diagonal braces at the front and 2 at the back, which I may replace for OCD reasons at a later date

While everything was off I decided now was the time to clear out the front rads. Front bumper off I was really surprised how much dirt and leaves had collected at the top of the rads. Blew out with airline and now nice and clear unlike the rest of the garage which is now covered in a nice layer of dust!

Next up to tackle is the front coolant hoses and crossover pipes which are weeping on the drivers side.

Still surprises me how big the rears are on these cars, I've had a few 4x4s and it makes those seem small!

Nice one Roj! Enjoy the ride!

Now I have serious garage envy!

Welcome to not being a lurker and being a contributor ,and a great first thread :thumb: :thumb:

Welcome young man :)

Couple of points .. i love looking at pictures like this :D

2nd Image .. those pipe collars are corroding with one looking like its close to leaking .. bury them and any other one like that in ACF 50 or waxoil .

I think you have a VTS fitted , you should have x2 black cards for that and if not going to be used then removing the immobiliser part might be a good idea .. seen a few non starts due to this going faulty over the years .

If thats not a gps antenna on your front bumper though then ignore the above .

Is there a nut on the link rod o/s/f ?

Mud behind the arches is pretty common .. if yours was a Cab it would already have flooded inside due to that amount of dirt there.

Drop link from anti roll or track rod? Sorry I'm unsure what you mean?

Yes I have VTS and it is enabled very eagle eyed!

All them corroded pipes came out today, lowered the subframe will post up pics later. The rear pipes appear o.k. but as you said I have covered them in acf 50, it says it penetrates so hopefully will get get in between the faces.

What is the torque spec for the track rods as I had trouble undoing the n.s. which was a little surprising as they was only off a few days ago when doing the too mounts. I think I did the to 75nm from memory... probably too much

:frustrated:

Welcome Roj,

Great first post. I really want to get my arch liners and undertrays off for a good clean, unfortunately don't have such a nice home setup.

Where are you based? D'oh! Essex. There's a few from Essex on here (askgeez) they sometimes go to the meet at ace cafe.

Quite a satisfying, once its all done! The arch liners cant be done quite easily as long as you have the wheel off. Not sure I would fancy doing all the under trays off of stands just because of the clearance underneath.

I had a boxster previously and did some bits under it on stands and it was pretty tight but doable.

Does any of them have a yellow 991 by any chance I keep seeing it out and about?

Dark blue 997 GTS is who I'm thinking of.

So as promised today's update - coolant hoses and cross over pipe removal.

As Demort had warned the most corroded hose (Off side upper) didn't want to come out of the ally crossover and was broken in the process of removal.

Surprisingly the rest came out without any hassle although still heavily corroded.

I managed to catch most of the coolant - on the floor  despite my best efforts with the bucket!

Following again what the most helpful Demort had advised on other threads, I unbolted the rack x2 bolts Hose clip brackets x4 bolts and lowered the subframe x8 bolts leaving the furthest rear bolts on to hold it up.

That gave ample clearance to remove the crossover pipes and heavily corroded brackets.

I gave the bracket a good wire brush then coating in acf50, Im not a big fan of waxoyl and acf is spoken well of on here so was my first experience with it.

Again following good advice I coated the rest of the hose connections in acf50 trying to spray in between the connections as best I could. It says on the bottle it penetrates so hopefully will get some capillary action sucking it in. I did think about taking them off and giving the faces outside of the o-ring a light coating but decided against it as a possible can of worms I didn't want to test.

I jet washed all the trays and liners in prep for going back on in the next day or two.

I noticed that my brake rotor guards had broken at the fixing point closest to the track rod ( probably caused by me) and were flapping around. I managed to secure them by adding a slightly larger washer and are now good as new.

So now I just have to go and get a new set of pipes from East London OPC on the way home from work in the morning. Fortunately I have a few days off after tonight so if all the parts are in stock I'm hoping it's all done by Tuesday.
