Hi All,

I am in a bit of a :?:

I have the opportunity to buy either a 996.1 C4 with 79k miles (1999) or a 997.1 C2S (2004) with 55k miles.

I will use the car as a weekend toy and probably only do about 1.5k-2k miles per year. I want to have it as a long term car and will of course service at a specialist every year.

The cars are within about GBP 7.5k from one another in price.

Would welcome your thoughts

ps: don't think the 996 has had the IMS replaced :frustrated:

If your budget allows I'd go with a gen 2. I am biased but the narrow body is great value. Not quite as raw as the 996 or 997.1 but lacking the engine issues, however rare a failure is.

Good luck and many more informed chaps will chime in soon :thumb: Shopping for a 911 is always fun!

Stop getting hung up about ims. You've more chance of writing the car off!!

If there's only 7.5k difference between the 2, either the 996 is flawless or the 997 is bore scored to f****.

So I guess that answers your question.

just took delivery of the 996 - going into the porsche specialist on Friday for a thoroguh look to see if there is anything further to do but it drives beautifully

Good stuff!

:useless:

Personally, I wouldn't consider doing anything for the first month of ownership. Drive it for a bit, explore options, then decide what to spend your dosh on.

and don't ever forget:

Rule 1: Never take it above 3k rpm until engine oil (not water temp.) is fully up to temperature (when the oil pressure gauge finally bottoms out at its lowest on tickover)..........then once up to temp. drive it like you've stole it.

Blimey, fast work!

It will be a great car for high days and holidays.

If you are in any way handy with spanners then they are quite easy to work on, so check here and the likes of pelican parts before spending £££ at a specialist.

Congratulations!!

I hope that you get a clean bill of health! I am assuming that the didn't have a PPI done prior to purchase? Or is the sale dependent on the report?
