My original stone guards are beginning to take on a very slight yellow tinge and although in good physical condition, this bug me and I intend to change them.

I would use the Porsche items again, however are there any better options on the market that will not yellow going forward?

With the advancement in PPF has anyone gone down the road of stone guards made by a PPF company? Does PPF yellow in time?

Any info appreciated

The yellowing would probably be the oxidisation on the top layer.
, similar to headlights. Have you tried polish on them to cut through the oxidisation?

I recently had Xpel installed to my car and they redid the stone guards with PPF and doubled the PPF up in that area.

Apparently Xpel are now manufacturing the stone guards for Porsche this is due to the yellowing problems that Porsche have had with the 3m manufactured ones so maybe contact your local Xpel dealer.

Taking the stone guards off you need a heat steamer which softens the glue behind the stone guard, pix bellow.... done mibe recently cos of yellowing, decided to go for black but the texture feels rough and slightly thicker than standard! I suggest take them off and fit new ones..

To take the stone guard, have to do it in a certain way otherwise you will be ripping a patch of paint of the body work !!!

How long have they been on the car before yellowing?

I replaced mine recently and it has made a noticeable difference (in that they are now less visible!) for only a small outlay, about £45 I think. I got mine from Prestige Parts on fleabay and they make these claims:
  • 200 micron thick clear gloss high density polyurethane material specifically designed for automotive paint protection
Computer cut to exact size and shape of the factory original parts
UV resistant - will not discolour or turn "yellow"

Only time will tell if these live up to their claims

Mine went yellow, so I took them off and then had the car ceramic coated.

Ceramic coatings are great, but it will not protect your paintwork against stone chips!

Nope you need paint protection film for that ... so where do you draw the line?

No worries bud. Each to their own. I just didn't want others reading this thread to think that permanently removing these factory installed stone guards was a good idea. :thumb:
