Advice - Double Din upgrade

Excellent, thanks for sharing that's just the part I need.

Hi,

Here's what I used:-
http://www.metraonline.com/part/99-9605B

Then bought an Alpine Double din with Apple Carplay... it's awesome! On 3 sim plan so can use Unlimited Deezer, Maps etc etc

It's as good if not better than a modern 991 OEM setup. TBH the Apple maps with live traffic etc is better than OEM in my experience (brother has a 991) we both prefer the Apple Maps Nav.

I didn't have the confidence to do it properly myself so had a specialist do it for £150... absolute bargain. The guys smiled at the end, he said it was fun but not straightforward. Microphone is by the rear view mirror and USB in the arm rest box.

Neat tidy and imo not too offensive for non OEM look. I use the car everyday and it makes an older car as functional as any modern car..

Do it!! :thumb:[/quote] :thumb:

Which alpine unit did you go for?

shop around as these Android head units are very common and re-badged.

So here's one - Android 7.1 and has a separate SW output too.. (if that's a requirement for you, it would be for me)

Available through their own site HERE or though Amazon.

I'd have to hear one first... though having said that, you can barely hear any "hifi" above 50mph in my car, lol.. and the generic digital amplifier chips coming out of China are perfectly adequate for normal listening...
Lots of functionality on these units, lots of choices for the aps too - you don't like the radio interface? download another one! You can't do that with an Alpine... The DAB would be a must for me and the OBD would be fun too.
And spotify, BBC iPlayer all built in too? That would be handy...
If your provider allows tethering / hotspot then you can run it all through your phone's 3/4G connection as well....

If you do get one, I think there are lots of people that would to read your review and opinions

Alpine iLX-107

Bose already in the car, sounds great and the connectivity is brilliant. Sound quality very good and the phone works well. You can be streaming music, use the Nav and ask Siri what the weathers like! It's reliable and just what I wanted to make the C4s a useable / practical modern Classic.

@BK911 & @Toddy2

From the pics, it looks like that metra fascia kit doesn't have the lip at the lower/upper edge which some of the others do.

Please can you confirm if this is the case, & which retailer you ordered yours from?

tia

I bought an Xtrons its spot on except their is no volume round button which is a bit of a pain. Great for apps like Torque for fault codes etc. I kept my Bose and I made a holder for the 2 USB inputs I put between the heated seats. I bought the tyre pressure valves that fit inside the tyres but they don't fit Porsche wheels. Actually great head unit very adaptable and cheap no complaints especially as I normally am a Pioneer person.

Snap.

Hi
I would be very interested in this as well since I have the Connects2 one and have been looking for another without the lip. From the link, it looks as if I would have to register with Metra first before ordering from their Florida based store?

many thanks in advance

If you are going from factory single DIN to double DIN, then I believe that you'll need to cut some metalwork out inside the dash. This put me off

:

Hi,
I'm not sure that any metal has to be cut TBH :?: It was a long time ago that I put the AVIC in mine but I think that it was just a black piece of plastic that created the horizontal divide between the previous single DIN rubbish and HVAC controller

HTH :thumb:

The plastic cross bar needs chopping out and the sides also cutting out. Could easily be done with a hacksaw blade. I suggest you remove the whole facia and do it off line.

See mine here: http://911uk.com/viewtopic.php?t=125771

Dragging up an old thread as I am interested in the Metra kit as a double din bezel.

Anyone got any close up pics? Does it need adapting or straight fit? (I have double din pcm already) I don't want a bezel with a lip and this looks like the best option.
