The Silver Bullet-Resto Project

Cheers mate sometimes feel your talking to yourself :D I will pop over to instagram for a shufty

So I`ve been at home this week so managed to get some of the dirty jobs done, de -rusted a heap of bolts, washers, nuts that will be sent to the platers,

breaking down the spring plates has been an adventure the bolts have been a challenge and have been heated, hammered, impacted and soaked and one still refuses to play

Some good news is all my parts have arrived from California Roger has been a pleasure to deal with www.retroautomotiveproducts.com/ the condition of parts from a dry climate are worth the shipping costs still waiting for the main beam to come back from the powder coaters.

Now that's impressive Gaz.
Are you going to get all the bolts and washers passive plated?

That's the plan Chief along with the spring plates, hubs and a few other bits one I get them stripped and cleaned :thumb:

Gaz,
Make sure you clean as much crud and threadlock/ sealer off as you can.
The platers, bless them don't give them that much attention.

Sorry, you may already know this. Mother, sucking eggs and all that

I am more than happy to suck eggs being Scottish and live in the country :D all advice gratefully received, I have tried to clean up with the wire wheel and a bath in bilt hamber deox which leaves them pretty good other than the surface pitting.

My stubborn bolt caved in and surrendered on the spring plate so they are now read for an overnight bath of rust treatment, all parts of these were totally fused /sealed which means you have no adjustments for setting the rear Geo I wonder how many 924.944.968 are in the same position, think I will put some anti seize between the plates and moving bolts when I put it back together.

911 plate below but same idea

So got the gearbox and torque tube removed today, couldn't get the couple to slide to split them so dropped the two together which was fairly straight forward with the engine already out.

As expected the bearings in the tube are completely shot the drive shaft splines are all in good condition so no probs their so bearings will be replaced and everything else will get a clean up paint etc.

good video here from this little Sheila down under, is it just me or is it something about a woman than can fix her own torque tube :D

Brilliant progress there Gaz. Are the bearings difficult to replace?

Aye they are a bit of a pain to do by all reports bearing kit is £75, or you can send it away and its £325 check out my link above you`ll enjoy it

Just watched that video.....pay the money

A bit of bracket painting , exhaust hangers, gearbox mounts, ARB etc also drained the transaxle oil bit smelly and a bit brown.
