This will actually be my first sports car and also used car purchase in 15 years of driving.

I am looking at C4S coupe with PDK around £50k with 20-30k miles and the usual options as I was thinking this would hold value as much as possible if I only do around 5-10k miles a year. Looking for cars with extended Porsche warranty or solid dealer warranty.

Seem to be few and far between available cars and I just can't decide on buying now or holding off 6 months to see where the market moves as they seem high at the moment and have held well in recent years.

Any thoughts on the above much appreciated and hopefully if do take the plunge I can use the site for more info

They are generally a bit higher spec than a C2S. I guess the buyers tick more of the boxes. You might limit your choices a bit if you set a ceiling of 20-30k miles.

You can apply the Porsche warranty to any suitable cars. No dealer warranty will match it.

Can't help you with future values.

As Magic said you can add a Porsche warranty to any car from any dealer or private sale , it must be all original and no mods and pass a 111 point check you must have owned the car 90 days so all you need really is a solid 3 mth warranty from the seller plus get the 111 point check done as part of your ppi due dilligence and you know then you good to go with a full Porsche warranty on the car for up to 14 years at about 1k pa. :thumb:

Such a minefield when not only buying my first used car but a relatively expensive one.

Probably being overly cautious taking the above into account and brexit looming.

The problem is no ones quite sure what will happen when we exit we didnt crash when it was announced like many thought we would but actually doing it is a leap into the unknown . What we have seen in recent years is little or no depreciation on the 997.2 non GT or turbo cars. and in some cars slight increases in value .
What you need to be careful of is not paying a premium for a very low milage car that you then become scared of enjoying as the value is in the low miles. I would be looking for an ave mile car that a few years of your lowish milage will turn it into a low miler in the future this will then allow you to hopefully get the premuium when selling that you didnt have to pay when buying . All we can say is based on recent years you are unlikely to lose on a 911 anything like you would if you spend the same money on a BMW, MERC, AUDI etc etc.

That's my thought process. Years of new car buying is a mugs game but it is stress free really.

Thanks for the detailed response

Upping the mileage to 50k still only brings a few other options into play and they are only £5kish less. It is going to take 3+ years to get there so would be happy to take that hit for the difference in initial purchase cost

If its only 5k difference for same spec cars mate then I would do the same as you :thumb:
It is a bit of a journey we have all been through, but as you say better than throwing it away on new cars or lease costs. :thumb: it may take a few weeks but the right car will come along . there are some excellent highly regarded dealers and a few questions on here will point you to who good and who to avoid :thumb: you may have to pay for the 111 point check yourself before buying but its worth doing and knowing the cars good to a full Porsche warranty as its total peace of mind then . :thumb:

I have a client who owns a few dealerships and recommended 911virgin and they have been really helpful. With most things a forum is a great resource if you use the search facility and trawl through google.

I think I know what I want and what is a 'good' car so will go from here and see what may come. I will worry about the negatives when they come!

911Virgin are one of the good guys :thumb: :thumb:

Found that if I change the age to 2008 there are more options around £35-40k which is £10k less than the car I am currently interested in which is 20k miles with a trusted dealer. There are a couple with around 40k miles and good history but not specialist dealers.

+1

It still surprises me, on a daily basis, why this form of research isn't used more often than it is.
Good luck on your journey to finding the right 911, and welcome to 911uk :thumb:

Amen to that

What other interesting motors have you had...Range Rover's or an R1 :dont know:

Nothing interesting in the slightest. Current family car is a new Q5 and before that A5 and other boring fords and VW's. 34 now and with two kids under 4 and business going well I thought it would be good time to treat myself and have 2 decent cars so one of us doesn't get stuck with our 2011 diesel golf!

Just moved house and competed an expensive renovation over the last 8 months and we had our wedding in the Caribbean a couple of months ago with 35 guests so I may as well finish the year off with a bang.

Other option was a Range Rover but the depreciation is crazy and looking at loosing £20k in the first year or two. If that happens in the 997 then somthing has gone very wrong
