My roof rail rubber is bothering me as previous owners have polished over it and it not looking it's best with Polish staining etc. I've done some investigation as per the below and it looks like a real faff to replace it. Has anybody carried out a DIY to do this? Was it as much of a hassle as it looks or a lot easier.

Alternatively; any ideas on getting the rubber looking good again?

Cheers

With this sort of thing, just use water on a cloth and add a little car shampoo to rub away the polish.

Then apply something like Autoglym Bumper car to bring the colour back

I would remove the roof rail cover which is straightforward. It will give you the best access to manipulate the rubber and allow you to clean the rail of any polish that has embedded itself between the two surfaces.

To clean the rubber I would recommend two products. A stationery type white rubber / eraser works really well on removing white polish residue from black plastic trim, then you can treat it with a good quality rubber / plastic conditioner. I really like using CarPro Perl on my cars trim, as it can be diluted if necessary and does not leave a really high shine, but a more of a matt black. I also use it at a tyre dressing!

Good luck!
