3.6 C2 ownership thread

I've started reassembling the o/s , new coffin arm and rear track control arm (same as n/s)

The anti roll bar has been powder coated and has new bushes and new clamps, not worth cleaning the old ones at under £3 each from Porsche

Caliper is built and ready, new disc, pads, sensors, HEL line

Waiting for new nuts/bolts coming from Porsche for final assembly

Me and the mrs love road trips into Germany and this Summer we did Berchtesgaden/Salzburg for the second time, we took her Boxster. The VW dealer in Berchtesgaden was one of the very first Porsche agents, unfortunately they lost their franchise in a big dealer shake up in the late 80's I believe. They still have several images of their Porsche days in the showroom and several classic VW's on show.

Work continues

That is some serious attention to detail, respect for that - that is always my target but I think I may need to retire too to be to that level of detail.

Great post and please keep the detail coming. :thumb:

So continuing with this at the weekend I fited the 'factoryish" fire extinguisher kit.

I say 'ish" as I discovered the VW fitting kit contains parts that are virtually identical to the Porsche items at a fraction of the price, £16, this includes the plastic holder/tray, the strap and the reinforcement bracket.

The remaining seat brackets were purchased direct from Porsche for about £80

The extinguisher is also available from VW and is the same 1kg Gloria, its £45

Fitting was straight forward with the seat removed from the car.

Once all that was done I set about removing the front strut, brake, hub and arms for a similar makeover as the rear

All the best, Paul

I should say that I fitted the amber side repeaters as a preference over the clears

So the strut was inspected, no corrosion or pitting to the operational length of the piston rod, no play or movement, slight corrosion to the body but not weakened. Therefore I decided to put off upgrading them until next Winters clean, instead I masked the piston rod and had a friend media blast the bodies, these were then etch primed and painted. The top mounts looked to have little wear in the bush but there was corrosion to the bare steel construction so new top mounts were ordered. The steel washer at the top of the piston had corroded and this was just starting to jump across to the chromed piston itself so new OPC washers were fitted. The friction bearing was stripped , cleaned, inspected and found to be good so simply regreased.
The coil spring was blasted and powder coated then had its pink/red poundage marks reapplied.

New control arms, drop links and TRE, GT spec plastic ducts fitted to the leading arm.

Whilst the bearing carrier and hub assembly was on the nench I thought it was wise to install a new bearing, I had the assembly media blasted then UPS'd it to D&G Porsche for them to remove/replace the bearing as I have no equipment for this.

I've now just started to strip and rebuild the front caliper , the dust shield has been powder coated and a new disc is waiting, HEL brake line installed, the hub should be back shortly and I can finish this side and do the same on the other.

Cheers, Paul
