996 early C2 - Ownership/project thread (cobalt blue)

Good work!

As always they get a bit louder once they carbon up a bit.
The Topgear 200 cell cats we fitted to Craig's were fiddly to say the least, although it probably varies from car to car.

Few hundres miles done in the last week with new exhaust. Happy to report I like it. No more rattly noise at 1500rpm, sounds VR6ish below 4000rpm then lovely noise above that.

As im coming up to 12 months ownership I went back to check my original wishlist and mostly done:

- Fit the LTT thermo Ive got sitting. - Now Done
- OZ Alleggerrita 18in wheels in titanium. - Lol, trying to get back to these.
- 200cel x-pipe cats mated to the Gembella silencers currently fitted. - Now all new Topgear system after Gemballas gave up the ghost.
- Sort paint - front bumper is quite bad but might just get both side done on the car so its all nice. - Still to do.
- Retro style side decal in matt grey to match wheels. - Might refit one with different colour combo.

Suspension will be next I think. Reckon I'll stick with shocks and springs set up. MOT due in next few weeks so will see if anything comes of that but tempted to strip down underneath over the winter and refresh bit and pieces/bushes along with a caliper paint. Coming up to 6000miles in 12 months so not to bad.

MOT passed last week. 5843miles since last. Only note was as I suspected slightly corroded rear discs and one slightly binding handbrake.

I asked about anything that looked to be worn on bushes etc and he said all were in good condition so happy with that.

I was going to do suspension but with no urgency I'll bide my time and see if any good deals pop up. Also decided to keep the wheels as there too nice to let go so going to swap out different rear rim then winterize them.

I will use it in winter but sparingly so I suspect it will be a series of small jobs to properly seal it underneath/powdercoat a few pieces over next few months.

Currently like this so no driving until I get wheel stripped and rebuilt.

Good news with the mot pass. :thumb:

I'm surprised those wheels didn't sell. Like you say just keep them and fit that correct rim.

If you aerokitted yours it would look like that Cobalt mk1 GT3 in the other thread. 8)

Decided to tackle the split rim tonight. Came apart quite easily. Few bolts had issues so I'll need to replace them then get it torqued up and sealed.
You can see the difference between the two, must be a 4mm difference in where outer piece sits. Main part of the weight is the face, the barrel and outer rim are really light.

Waiting on a few bolts for the wheels so decided to paint callipers. Hasn't gone great but I'll leave them and see if I like the colour then redo them.
Thinking this colour with wheels. Thoughts?

Must admit I'm warning to the gold though.

Personally, I like to see LM style wheels either gold like yours, or silver.

Gold centers with you body colour looks fabulous IMO.

:?:

Gold!

Always believe in your soul

You've got the power to know

You're bores are indestructible, always believe in...

I cant help thinking that Subaru ruined the whole "blue car, gold wheels" combination for everyone........

Grey would look more "mean"..... sliver would look more "technical".... (some will say body-colour, but I've never been a fan of that look despite the number of Porsches its seen on)

Yeah that's pretty much what I was thinking. Thing is when I google E88 wheels there are so many in gold that look amazing but with the car being blue it has that Subaru link.

Im pretty sure Im going grey.

It's a "Gunmetal" from me.

Gold is a bit blingy yet I do sometimes like it. Gunmetal on yours though. Will look great. :thumb:

+1

Then I'd be even more tempted to buy them next time you want to change your wheels :D :thumb:
