DIY interior paint job

Hi has anyone successfully done an interior paint job of the plastics / colour coded with the body work?

Many of plastics are a little tired looking, with scratches to the plastics / rubber coating - mainly the center console.

As I am replacing the handbrake and gear knobs, seemed an opportunity to sand back, prime and paint these associated plastics and body colour match them.

Any tips and advice welcomed.

You need to speak to Phil on here...

I am sure he uses Wicked Coating's.

I did the centre console on my Boxster with rattle cans and that turned out ok.
The thread is in the Boxster section on here

Not done a DIY job, but as Jin said I use Wicked coatings in Poole Dorset . they do postal service . they are not a body shop but a coatings specialist and can offer every option from a soft touch finish similar to the OE, BUT IN ANY COLOUR YOU WANT or paint it or carbon dip it. I went for colour coded to my external colour, I also changed the seat belts to lift the interior they are only £35 each to get new webbing in any colour you want :thumb: :thumb:

whether you could achieve a suitable DIY finish using a paint can or plastidip I really cant say as never seen it.

@Phil - how much did your center console cost to do?

It was done on a forum group buy so I think £180 but sure the normal price is £225 or something similar but call wicked coatings and chat to the MD Lyle he's a nice guy and if you had a few other bits done the price gets better per item . remember on a 997 the centre console is about 7 or 8 pieces not sure on the number of parts on a 996 if its less it may be a bit cheaper :thumb:

There is a guy over on m3 cutters forum who does the interior bits of m3s who is simply awesome has done all mine on my e46 m3, he would do these very well and probably cheaper too, he's liam, screen name lovatt on cutters

I have done quite a few bits on my car in gloss black and on my old boxster I did stuff like the centre console.
If you are careful and take your time you can get a decent finish with rattle cans.
I use Halfords stuff - primer, paint and lacquer. Use wet and dry at the start and between each phase to get everything nice and smooth.
Plenty of layers to build the paint up etc.

I'm painting my interior parts, like others have said you can get good results if your handy with a rattle can, there's sure to be helpful guides on YouTube etc, preparation and patience are key to getting good results :thumb:

Hi, if you are looking for a touch up rather than full re-spray of a part, I found that using a sponge with a colour matched paint worked well. For example I had a boxster with colour coded air vents where the paint was flaking off after years of use. I had ordered paint to repair the wear on the leather seats and thought there would be no harm trying it on the vents. It worked really well.

just registered - so hopefully will drop him a line. Depending on price, I might just get him to do it.

Otherwise, I'll get the rattle cans out.
