997.2 Steering wheel on 997.1

Just reading on this thread. There is someone on there who had his sport design wheel fitted and working, not a Turbo but shouldn't make any difference.

Hi Folks,

So i've been trying to get this to work on my 2007 turbo, but no luck. I've been speaking with copsmot and isysman in the background (thanks).

I bought a new PDK sport design wheel, i.e. the one with paddle shift not buttons, and the correct gen 2 steering module.

I found an indie with a PIWIS 2 v14.75 system (PIWIS v34.00 won't work i tried). They fitted the steering module and steering wheel. Then changed the setting in the PIWIS 2 to PDK.

They could tell the messages were going from the steering wheel to the steering controller, but were not going from the controller to the gearbox as it wouldn't change gears.

Anybody got any other suggestion for what to try before i sell the wheel and controller on eBay (or get a gen 2 turbo, whicher is easier)?

Thanks

Pav

I would say that if you are trying it without and airbag you can't be sure that is not causing the wheel not to work properly. I would get it fitted with an airbag and try it. You will have no trouble moving it on if you can't get it to work.

Another thing, which sounds crazy but I would try setting your car to having a Multifunction steering wheel. My car had one fitted originally as did copmots and we've had no issues. Worth a try.

Also make sure you have the right control unit.

Just spoke to the indie. They are saying that the gearbox control module on a turbo is different to the NA cars and that's why it isn't working on my 07 car even though it is on copmots 07 car.

so looks like i've got some selling to do.

So are they saying it won't work or you have the wrong control module?

It would be interesting to find out if the control module for a PDK Turbo is different from the NA PDK?

Speak to Ryan at Suncoast. They have done many of these retrofits. Incidentally he told me my conversion wouldn't work as they had issues trying to get the 2007 Turbo (Manual) to take the Gen.2 wheel. However ask them if they have completed any Tip 997 Turbos with that wheel. It may be an issue that can be overcome.

Also ask about the control module, if the NA one is the same as the Turbo one on PDK cars.

That's extremely unusual. I always get a reply. Don't tell them you're in the UK. There is a general email as well, you can get it from their website.

Did you ever get this working on your 997.1 Turbo tip? I've got all the parts coming (991 wheel, airbag, 997.2 module) and a little concerned that I'm not going to be able to get it to work. Have seen lots of posts from guys in the USA running this setup on tiptronic Turbos however?

This might help :?:

And maybe a call to ES in Milton Keynes?

Thanks for that. There's a great guide on Planet9 that includes the module swap (which is needed for a tip to get the paddles working). More concerned that there is potentially an issue for UK/RHD Turbo tips as there doesn't seem to be anyone that's installed one and got it working (at least that I can find).

Regardless, I've bought the parts so will update this thread once I've tried :)

Did this mod a couple of years ago on my 2007 turbo tip RHD.
It was straight forward. New clock spring and control module, northway Porsche coded it with PWIS

Thanks for the confirmation, is much appreciated. My wheel & airbag are currently sitting in customs waiting for clearance from a specialist assessor, but will hopefully be cleared today, if so I should have it all fitted this week.

I can confirm that this works in a RHD 997.1 Turbo (delivered in the UK in Dec 2006).

I've just installed a multi function wheel out of a Macan and the paddles and horn work after replacing the control module with one out of a PDK car. Will be heading in to Porsche this week to get multi function coded back in and expect this to work thanks to the adapter from this guy: https://gpsadapter.us/
