Advice please on car I am looking to buy

Putting a checklist together from all the tidbits of advice given... Don't suppose theres already one established?

Trying to expand my search radius and look further afield - preference would be a 997 - ideally Gen2 as from what I read they are more 'reliable' would a budget topping out at 35k get one or is it just unrealistic and should be aiming either for a solid 996 (without 6 year gaps!) or a Gen1 997 like this one?

Is there such a thing as a finding service anywhere? Would happily pay a chunk for sourcing, inspections and delivery.

Everyone will have their opinions, although its generally recognized every new model brings improvements :thumb: If your a worrier like me youll go gen 2 (unless your names Phil your unlikely to have any major issues)
Likewise on a 997 gen 1 you'd be unlucky, but the engine has a fundamental design floor which can lead to bore scoring, which the gen 2 doesn't have. Also I'm sure you've read about the other potential issues with IMS.
Gen 2 's have dropped recently and your budget will get you into one. Both Dovehouse and Ashgood are well respected and have cars around that budget. In todays sales climate id be expecting 2 k off those prices though , enough for an OPC warranty? As with the advice given from Akram you can see you should only really buy these vehicles form a specialist/OPC or privately from an enthusiast.

As you seem to be happy to push your budget a bit , but noting your looking for a wide body car and one with 60k odd miles . you should consider something like this . wide body cars are always going to be a bit more money and the same in narrow body would be early 30k

Karl, this one that Phil has pointed out is a winner :thumb: Go have a look quickly and I'm pretty sure you'll be a Porsche owner soon !

Ticks all boxes including my favourite colour combo!

For something like this would I need a PPI & Borescope, just the PPI or neither?

Always worth getting the PPI and borescope, but I would also suggest knocking a grand off the price, so perhaps you could come to some deal with the seller to have those done at his expense and secure your purchase based on both being good :thumb:

:agree:

The Gen2 3.6 is about the same, performance wise, as a Gen1 3.8 and you get the gawjuss red stripe on the rump. :thumb:

Agreed, with Porschekit :thumb: normally a PPI will flag things that will more than cover the cost of the ppi in negotiation price. It wouldn't surprise me to see this car has been under porsche warranty for all or most of its life given the full opc history and general condition from the pics. :thumb: :thumb:

Thank you for the find, have fired off an enquiry to the garage tonight and will follow up with a call tomorrow.

Cheers,

Karl
