Woes of selling a 996 Turbo

Its a lovely car, with nice miles and a good colour combo.

The problem you have is the market is rubbish...

Its a tiptronic, and its had a lot of owners.

The smart money will be in a manual car, with under 5 owners, and the people that are in the market are savvy. The potential 996 turbo owner is looking at resale value constantly, and your car hasnt the potential for another owner to own it and get out without fear of a fair financial loss.

You need to be around the £30k mark to get rid of it IMHO...

When you look at Baddabings cars at £28,995 that hasnt sold tells you heck of a lot about 911TT pricing this year.

I realised the market was soft, but i would have thought that the car would fly out.

Tell me about it! What I find strange is that there seem plenty who are willing to pay up to 25k for a C4S - with all the inherent IMS etc issues, but a few K more would buy my real turbo. Yes, a few more miles perhaps, but I'd rather have one on 96k with all the jobs done than one on 75k with it all looming round the corner... Rant over :bandit:

I bought my C4S because it was a N/A

When all you can buy these days is a turbo (more or less) then a N/A becomes something special.

I like the idea of the engine in a turbo but for me a C4S is more attractive.

IMS is vastly overblown and I have only changed mine because that is what the market expects. My old one is as new. Nothing wrong with it and now just an expensive paperweight.

I agree about the mileage - but 96k will put some off.

I had my heart set on a beautiful 2006 997 C2S aero in cobalt blue, it had a new engine already. Priced at £27k back in Jan/Feb 2018. Problem was it was replaced under warranty by the OPC, so the original fault wasn't fixed.

I bought a 996tt instead.

Now that I've had it almost 6 months, I think a GT3 would've been a better fit for me, alas I've missed that particular boat. Now on occasions, I'm wondering if anyone has taken the turbos off a turbo and removed the front differential. Perhaps bored out to 4.0 ...? Mezger, 996 wide body RWD. May work.

Have you considered an outright sale to trade?

Won't achieve private money obviously but depends how keen you are to shift it.

I sold my last car, a V8 Vantage, to the trade 20 months ago. I got less than I was hoping for but not too much less... and the trader who bought it has been trying to sell it for the last 20 months! He gas just dropped his asking price by 4k to slightly more than he paid me for it.
So in hindsight I'm glad I didn't keep trying to sell it myself or give it to him SOR (though I do have a vintage watch with a specialist to sell for me SOR at the moment, so will see how that goes!).

Up since May, been on here and Pistonheads. Lots of interest tbh, but mostly "Is your car still for sale, mate" - then no further contact, so I'm guessing people trying to see where the market is at rather than looking to buy. A few viewings but not really serious 996 buyers. Perhaps it doesn't help being a bit out of the way in Devon, but at this sort of money I would certainly be willing to travel any distance to get the right car.

Maybe I see things differently to other people, but I think that is fantastic value for money. I buy my cars to drive and so am not worried about the mileage. If I hadnt already got my 997 turbo, then this would be perfect and I could have saved myself a good £20k+ in the process.

I guess I can imagine for someone looking to move into a Porsche for the first time, buying a "modified" 996 turbo with no warranty in a private sale might be a bit off-putting so maybe thats hampering the sale?

Quite possibly, but I reckon there are few cars of this vintage that don't have a replacement exhaust system and new engine mounts.

Pistonheads and on here. I figured that would be enough - any one serious about finding a 911 would end up on one of these sites. Or perhaps I'm wrong? Autotrader perhaps?

Ebay classified ad or Autotrader.(or both)

Have been following your thread and can't believe it hasn't sold - TBH if I had £10k to spend, I'd sell my C4S and buy yours!

Good luck!

My take is things, in general, will be quiet until at least there is some resolution with Br Exit in early 2019. No resolution or a messy outcome will fudge things up for a bit longer.

We are at the point in the game of pass the Porsche where the music has stopped.

Good luck though.

Bargain price for the car. Personally I would remove the exhaust and replace with OEM. The tips are a bit marmite and might put buyers off.
