Morning all,

$$$$ Cash to plug a computer into your car!! $$$$

I'm doing a bit of modding to my 2006 Cayman S, which has a slightly poorly engine, and am looking for someone with a similar car who might be willing to help.

What I need is to get a download of a working car's standard Porsche ECU in order for Emerald ECUs of Watton, Norfolk to program an aftermarket one for my car.

This would basically just involve Emerald plugging their computer into the car and downloading a load of data while they turn different things on and off (this allows them to understand how the sensors on the engine provide info to the dashboard etc. - like rpm or oil level). Nothing would change on your car - the process doesn't upload or overwrite anything.

As my car is not running I need someone to stand in for me. They would need the car 2 or 3 days, for which I would be willing to compensate you...

So, if you are willing let me know! :help:

It should be a Gen 1 987 Cayman S (3.4) with Manual gearbox

- preferably with (but not essential);

Sport Mode
PASM (Porsche Active Suspension Management)
Cruise Control
Tyre pressure monitoring

My build is in your hands peeps. Make me proud.

Thanks in advance,

Jimbo

It's lucky you live in Bournemouth otherwise I would be thinking you where a Nigerian Prince looking to loan a car.... :floor:

Good luck with your search for a 'stand in' car it all sounds a fascinating project that I'm sure we'd love to hear about on this site

I'd have loved to do a 'build thread' and document all the progress... but the only photo's would be me handing a (very) fat envelope to an LS3 conversion specialist in Birmingham and then another of me flying offshore on a chopper while he works on it.

The lazy option yes... but also the best chance of it working option!

Jimbo, great to see the project starting mate and before anyone says anything no its not my fault he's spending his money on this huge mod . he's even shown an exhaust guy a video of my car and said it needs to be louder than that :floor: :floor: so getting a 1st prize at Dinslaken next year is looking unlikely for me
Jimbo I hope someone on here is able to help you and if you get a result I may post up a similar ad asking if anyone can lend me their wife for 2 or 3 days :floor: :floor: :floor: :floor:

It's a little bit your fault, Phil...

Well maybe those long discussions over coffee and bacon butties at Sandbanks may have aided your decision :floor: :floor: :floor:

:dont know: Might have had something to do with it, I guess :D

Do you think we have a big enough Cayman audience on here? Or should I maybe stick the request up on Pistonheads too?

Any other places I could try, you think? :?:

Good shout, Phil... I will now wait to see if the admins approve my request..!

:judge:

Right - request is up on BookFace too now.

If anyone is interested these are the guys doing the custom ECU:

You would be welcome to borrow my 2006 Boxster S 3.2 manual with PASM and Sport chrono, but no cruise or TPM, if that is of any use to you :?:

I`m only 30 miles away from Brum

But if you bend it, you mend it :thumb:

Excellent :D

Thanks for this kind offer... I'll check with the builder / ECU peeps and see if the Boxster is similar enough for their needs.

The thread on BookFace's Porsche Owners UK group is growing arms and legs just now re: ECUs and what route to take so I will keep you up to date when the techie guys doing the work tell me what they need!

Thanks again, Kris. Much appreciated :thumb:

This coverage of a Dynotorque Cayman LS3 build popped up in my feed today

@OP - I'm guessing this is yours?

If so, I'd love to see & hear more about it when it's complete, as I'm sure others here would

Thanks for posting the link to the video. I saw a few of Craig's conversions years ago and he's definitely the UK's leader for V8s, particularly LS engines.
