Check your arches

While replacing the rear discs I thought I'd just check behind the rear wheel arch liner for any buildup of crap, afterall, all of the undertrays are off for inspection too..

Look what I found! :what: A heavy buildup of road grime between the arch liner and the bodywork!

This is the drivers side, the passenger side was worse, with the buildup almost reaching up to the large grommet. Second pic is how it looks now all cleaned up :)

I don't imagine the OPC or Indie's check for this very often.. :dont know:

Also check the arch lip going over the top of the wheel too. This isn't a very well treated part of the car yet it gets a lot of crap thrown at it. I'll be giving mine a rub down, paint and underseal in the future.

This may have been covered many times, but I've not seen it and if it helps someone...

Good call.

Found a fair bit of buildup between the bumper cover and arch too.

Anywhere else I should look, apart from the the radiators?

Couple months back i fitted new rear spats and that was full of dust and whole load of gravel etc, cleaned it up well!! When i get to fit my B6 shox ill be taking under covers off and spay under seal shultz (rubbery texture coating)

if you look further inside- behind the front rubber deflector thingy; there are a couple of diagonally mounted braces with 2 bushes on each. The chances are- these are starting to rust too- the paint protection breaks down.

PS- has anyone thought of waxoyling (or some other form of protection) under their cars? I took the plastic underbody trays off mine recently and all looked good underneath. wondered whether or not to give it a coat, but decided not to at the time

It's a real silt trap and bound to accelerate corrosion. I did mine a couple of years ago but this has prompted me to do them again over the winter.
