MaxA's ''Mr White'' long termer

Nice work.....everything but the 3.5hr drive of course. Good on her for having a crack. Maybe next next time you'll only lap her twice. :thumb:

Maybe, she's a bit down on power with only about 250bhp. I was also allowed to pass the 991 TurboS; new owner feeling nervous apparently.

Pesà¤mà¤ki is a short 2km track, with a very technical infield and lots of late apeces, with one particularly slippy corner, but even though it's very flat, there's a litle elevation (maybe 1m) and nice soft rubbing strips on the corners, so you can build up a flow. It was lovely day, cool, sunny and bright. Excellent for my first time back on track or a while. :thumb:

We kept checking the tyres, but unlike my new buddy in the 550 bhp Turbo whose rears reached 3.5 bar, it was my fronts that got hot, consistently reaching 3.0bar from 2.5 standard. My rears stayed steady at 3.0bar. It seems that I lean pretty hard on the fronts going into the corners... but they held up and didn't wear too much

R53 MINI at Ahvenistà¶

This is my other car at the Ahvenistචnon-FIA-approved track in Finland: the exterior is pretty much standard - save for the dechromed belt line, black aero grille and Atomspeed bonnet scoop (for lower IATs) - but underneath it has à–hlins R&T coilovers, camber plates, adjustable drop links, Whiteline rear anti roll bar, adj. rear control arms, lots of polybushes, added caster front poly bushes, lightweight OZ rims, sticky tyres, K Sport big brake kit with six piston calipers, two piece discs, Ferodo DS2500 pads.

It produces 230bhp (I need another run on a dyno) from the Eaton M45 supercharged 1.6 with a 17% reduced pulley, bigger intercooler, hotter Newman cam, bigger 550cc fuel injectors, a super rare John Cooper Motorsport 4-2-1 manifold, sports cat, a John Cooper Works catback, an enclosed cold air intake and custom remap on 98.

It weighs 1100kg and sounds old school (as it should, with a race manifold).

On the inside I have a Sparco Evo II fixed bucket seat, a leather and alcantata Works wheel and next year it'll have an uprated clutch, lightweight flywheel and Quaife LSD.

I've had it more than 10 years, and it's been used all year round, driven on ice (and an ice track), snow, gravel, track, and even (heaven help me) in the city.

And for the doubters amongst you, both my local Porsche friends have driven it, and their smiles couldn't have been any wider!

Nice post. Love the mini. I have always fancied one...

Thanks. It turns out to no great surprise at all that the MINI is quicker around the track on Bilstein B14s and Federal 595RSRs - as the à–hlins are still in my winter set up (too high, too soft and no camber), and there isn't enough grip with Bridgestone Potenza RE002s on hot tarmac, but it is always a hoot. :thumb:

As you can see, I don't beleive in dailies. Both my cars are used properly, and then occasionally need to suffer the indignity of commuter traffic.

I'm picking up my newly lowered car this afternoon (along with a couple of other bits of maintenance sorted, including the aircon which stopped blowing cold this spring): really looking forward to the improved stance/lower centre of gravity. 8)

Hopefully I can still make it home without scraping the ground too much - I live at the end of a gravel road.

Nice set of mods. Would love to get some input on those front camber plates, not seen anyone else running that particular one.
What happened to your ac? Mine recently had the evaporator changed due to a leak (full dashboard out expensive job) and compressor (expensive). The ac control unit was also changed.

Sad to say, it wasn't a 100% success as they found a leak in the air con system but couldn't diagnose and fix the problem in time ... so no idea.

And - even more annoying - it seems that the Vorshlag camber plates didn't match the H+R springs (I need to bottom that out, as they were supposed to match...), so after a realignment there is 1.18 degrees of negative camber at each side of the front right now, which is better than it was.

That being said, with the new springs the body control has increased (there is less floatiness) and the ride is only marginally firmer.

sticker tuning

Two from Porsche Club Finland and one from California...

I love this time of year (20.06.2018):

Sunrise today at 03:54
Sunset today at 22:50
Length of day is 18 h 56 mins

This sort of explains how a camera got a shot of me at 06:57 one Saturday morning about 200km away from home ...

... and now I have the right hand (my passenger side) fan running full time and making a racket.

Presumably I have got a stone stuck in the driver's side radiator fan, or there's something more fundamentally wrong with the AC (which is not working, and was merely diagnosed as "leaking somewhere", yup, right, thanks, I knew that already...).

And this being the time of year for all the 911s to be let out of their cages, the garages are all fully booked. I'd like to do my own spannering, but my gravel driveway isn't really up to it. And although we now have the permission to rebuild the garage, my builder can't find the staff.

It really is double bollocks.

I managed to have a fiddle, remove the front section of the arch liner and hoover up about a pound of gravel from the suspension (you'd be surprised how much collects in all the nooks and crannies) and the fan now spins properly but the air con needs a fix. I'll be popping in to see my independent on Wednesday.

If necessary, I'll leave the 997 with them as I'm heading off to a summer meeting with my other club next week: BBQ, drinks, lots of tyre-kicking, and a whole day at the Knutstorp circuit in Skà¥ne (Southern Sweden). We're making it a boys family road trip with my old dad, brother, my son and my two nephews.... we need some 'assistants' to do the timing, spannering, GoPro vids and such.

A simple air con service seems to have solved the problem. They found the system to be overpressurised and short of some 150g of gas. At least it seems to be working again for the time being, and my fans don't sound like an F16 sitting on the run way waiting for take off on full afterburner.

It was cool to check out some serious metal in the showroom: they had two 720s (yum), a bunch of Ferraris and Lambos (whatever), a 912, a 1972 Targa, and a grey/peanut 2008 997 Turbo Tip at a rather fruity price.

As well as a 1957 Mercedes 300 Roadster in red. 'Stickered' at just north of EUR1m. Not seen that price on a car for a long time...

Some pictures after the H&R lowering springs (settling?), realignment and 7mm front end spacers were fitted. I had 12mm on the back already. It would have helped if the ground was actually level. I'll need to do some more side shots, they're not so easy.

Sorry about the sideways effect...

And now I have a CEL (code: P1094) for the MAF sensor. I'll try to clean it and the airbox over the weekend, if I can find a 5 point Torx 20 bit, or it'll have to wait until service time (it's not cold and I'm not driving at altitude) in the autumn. :x

997 was unloved over the weekend, other priorities.

Next weekend, however it's the 2018 Porsche Club Festival at Alastaro. In addition to watching some of the racing and slalom, I'm planning to get out on the track on Saturday 1730-1900 and on Sunday in the two L2 sessions from 1030-1100 and 1230-1300.
