Is the 991 gt3 bubble about to burst?

Just re the comment above about the size of the 991 GT3 vs older cars. I've got a 991.2 GT3 and a 997 GTS which is I believe the same wide body width as the 997.2 GT3 RS. My garages are very narrow so am acutely aware of the width of both....the 991.2 GT3 is no wider than the wide body 997. Sure it's a bit longer but it's the width that people always seem to comment about on UK roads.

With regards to the GT3 market we're definitely in for interesting times....Porsche have made 991 variants in unprecedented numbers....I'd guess there are 800 991.1/991.2 GT3's in total in the UK. That's a lot of what are pretty specialist/niche cars to find a home for. There are an awful lot of cars on the market at the moment....most OPC's are part of large dealer groups who have a three month stock holding policy and we only really have two months until dealers will be looking to lighten the load ahead of the quiet winter months.

I reckon if you're in the market and wait until Sep when it's quarter end for OPC's you'll be able to get a really good deal on a car. As has been said above OPC's will "own" these cars are RRP if they were traded against an RS so for most cars that's circa £130k.

Wider car market is not in great shape, last winter was absolutely shocking for a lot fo the specialist dealers so I don't think anyone is going to be feeling brave about going into this winter with a lot of stock.

Blimey, won't £95k for a 991.1 GT3 press down on 997 GT3 prices or is the market for the simpler/manual 997 smaller and somewhat separate? Wishful thinking on my part? 997 GT3s don't seem to be moving as they were a year ago, when I was in the market buying one

On the bright side, £95k does sound great value for such an awesome machine, not much above a 991.1 GTS, wasn't long ago there was a good £20-30k gap. Maybe the asking price on those is under pressure, no sign that I've seen of 997 GTS prices softening though.

Agree with previous comments, GT market is or is about to be in interesting times.

I wouldn't expect so to be honest, so wishful indeed. You really can't get away from quite how few 997s there are (especially Gen 2) compared to the 991. The most common of all GT3s by miles is the 991, and the second most common the 991RS (not as far behind as you'd think either). The 991s aren't rare cars in the way that the earlier models are and frankly it is a supply and demand situation. It is exacerbated by the fact that a lot of the 996s/997s have drifted into the hands of people who consider them as keepers (i.e. not those who surf from finance deal to finance deal every year or 3) and that trend will continue to dry out supply in the market as time goes on. Finally of course - they are very different markets and the people who want a 996/997 are rarely interested in the newer cars.

Oh I'm not wishing for 997 prices to drop, I was just wondering if it was wishful thinking on my part that they would hold their own despite what may happen with the 991 market, so your reasoning sits fine with me. In any case I'm not a seller (unless something comes up), since picking up a 986 for running about, the GT3 is more secure as a keeper.

Back to the 991, £95k for a GT3 may not fill current owners with joy if that's the direction the market really is going, but it's monumental value compared to what else costs that much IMO.

Just out of interest dimensions are I believe as follows:

997 GT3 RS .......w 1852 l 4460
991 GT3 RS .......w 1880 l 4557

So there is about an inch (28mm) difference in width and four inches in length (100mm). They definately look too big to be sporty even if that is not the case. I think the problem arises on spirited drives on B roads where a car coming the other which may cause issues. Clearly fine on the empty European roads.

As for marketing and prices I think the market is very different. With the loss of tactlity and driver involvement in the 991 it is attracted to those just after the latest model. Additionally those after straight line speed. I cannot see 991 GT3/RS holding their values as well as 997/996 or being quite as investment opportunity geared. The only caveat is possibly the manual 991.2 GT3.

991 GT3RS is the even wider WB though isn't it? GT3 is not.

997 GT3 is narrow bodied so the GTS version is wider. They use the same shell but GT3 has narrow body rear panels attached

Well rather oddly the Porsche AG site shows the 991 GT3 RS as having a narrower wheelbase than the GT3:-

991 GT3 RS wheelbase 2453mm
991 GT3 ................. 2457mm

Pip :?:

Wheelbase is nothing to do with the width. Bit early for Sherry.

Shorter wheelbase, or narrower track?

No 991 GT car is ever going to be rare. Porsche spat these out in numbers.

That said, ALL GT cars are special and therefore will hold their value over the non-GT variants.

I agree that the 996/97 seem to be the strongest bet at the moment.

I don't think the 991.1GT3 would ever be worth less than a 997 or 996 version?

IMO the 991.1 will bottom out at 90K for the GT3 and 120k for the RS

Erm - you can already get a 991.1 GT3 for less than a 997.2 GT3, so ... not the case :?:

Maybe it would apply to the .1 versions of each, bit of a stretch for me to imagine my humble 7.1 being worth more than a 9.1 with things like mileage and condition being equal, for their age.

Totally, and they will fall further eventually due to the sheer volume made in comparison to the older models
