Another engine noise...

It maybe worth a stab, loose spark plug? or knackard chain tensioner?

I understand that if its worn through a main bearing, then a big end bearing can follow causing all manner of nasty as the piston bangs around (Hope its not that obviously)

As you've already said, and oil filter drop will be a good indication... Good luck

Tappets

I've brought the car out of the garage and away from any walls to try to get a better sound recording to demonstrate the variable nature of this noise.

Today I noticed that when the revs were at 1200 as part of the start-up process I don't think the noise was present but when the revs dropped to warm tickover it started. The video shows that it's intermittent, could it be timing chain slap?

Had my Dad look at it, he's a retired engineer and reckons it's not bottom end...

Oil sample sent away today and betting it in to a specialist week after next.

Hopefully nothing serious

Thanks in advance for any further help

That could actually be something on the outside of the engine, such as something interfering with one of the pulleys, or possibly a loose heat shield rattling on the exhaust or the engine.

Possibly a loose baffle inside the silencer?

Filter check

I've removed the filter and whilst it looks ok to me, I'm no expert and would appreciate any input.

There are a few (maybe 12 in total) tiny black and some tiny brown particles, non-ferrous and I'm hoping they are normal for a car with 109k on it.

I'm trying to attach some photos

exhaust gasket

noticed some carbon build up above one of the exhaust manifold/engine block gasket, would you say this is leaking?

I know, those bolts are going to be a pain...
