Some 996 love in GTPP this month- a 996 supplement with advice and road tests of the different models, plus a good and very fair 997 vs 996 C4S test in the mag with some nice pics.

Annoyingly I actually had to buy it rather than read it in WHSmith as its sealed in a plastic wallet, but I'm glad I did. :D

Yes the publishers are getting crafty aren't they, using sealed packets. Next time you come across this in WHSmith try coughing loudly whilst you rip the packaging off. You then need to confidently flick through the magazine in the middle of the shop though to not arouse any suspicion.

This works for me with porn mags.

:D

I may buy that mag this week then. You could give us a spoiler though, come on, which is best C4S or C2 manual?

Why do they always test against the (relatively heavy and expensive) C4S?

Because it's the best looking version :thumb:

911 & Porsche World will have a 996.2 C2 vs 996.1 C4 vs C4S article soon. Not sure which issue it'll be yet.

Looking forward to this one to see how the other compare to the god knows as 996.1 C4.

I think that was sort of the point of the article... a nice 996 4S is the same price as a nice 997 C2, and contrasting the 'basic' 997 with the more elaborate wide body 4WD 996 with the 4S suspension settings.

FWIW the mag did a test last year of a 997 C2 vs a 996 C2, again well written and a sensible conclusion.

My concern with all these tests is that they need to have 'best of breed' standard examples, rather than damning a particular car because it has dodgy modded or tired suspension, geo or something.

Yes. Each example was relatively low mileage, well maintained and more or less standard.
