Shell V-Power is a ridiculous £1.46/L

Super all comes from the same tank on the refinery's. It's only the brands that put in different additives :thumb:

Not true. Momentum has twice the ethanol of v power or ultimate, its cheap way of getting the octane rating. V power has a better base, and uses some ethanol, plus
Toluene Xylene and Trimethylbenzene octane boosters. It has a much higher overall energy density

But the quality control is the main reason. You are playing russian roulette every time you put supermarket ***** in your car

Dont care, v power only for me

Having had a bad tank of tesco momentum ***** in a previous car that cost me a small fortune in repairs and hassle i will never use that crap. I would not use it if it was free.

Agree I had the same experience! I even put shell in my mini d and it runs far better!! Wife used to put Tesco in the disco, I made her try shell for a month and even she agrees it runs better.

Who'd have thought petrol threads could be littered as shitty as oil & tyre threads

It always makes me chuckle when I read posts on here discussing discount codes etc aimed at saving a few £££s on 5 litres of oil that lasts 5000+ miles. The cost of oil represents about 1p per mile of running costs yet gets a thread every few weeks.

Petrol costs us around 28p per mile but only gets discussed once a year.

had the same using supermarket fuel in my merc SL a few years ago ,caused a missfire that melted the cats fortunaitly covered under warranty as it was not very old at the time, it was an expensive fix . merc said to me do you run it on supermarket fuel I said yes they said thats whats caused it they dont advise using supermarket fuel . that was the last time 12 years ago that I put supermarket fuel in my cars :nooo: :nooo: it most certainly isnt all the same stuff from the refineries it may have originally been all the same stuff out of the ground but that it. :thumb:

I don't know who told you this ? I work on an oil refinery and we only have one tank of high octane motor spirit. There is no ethanol in super . It is only added to normal motor spirit as a octane booster.

The only difference is the additives that are added when the Tankers are loaded. This is a very small amount. I would say the problems people have suffered is more to do with either cross contamination at the petrol station or poor cleanliness of their tanks.

I holed a piston on one of my Lambrettas many years ago leaving Skegness. I found on later there was numerous people who had the same from the same station. I always put this down to water in the fuel or the underground tank being emptied more than normal. Due to it being extremely nice weather so that people were queuing for fuel. This may have stirred up sediment in the holding tank. Which I was lucky enough to put in my scooter. Which most probably blocked the jet in the carb that caused the hole in the piston. This is all superstition though.

Its in the spec sheets, momentum is E5 and will be E10 later this year. Unless its sourced from Valero milford haven which doesnt add ethanol yet

thats interesting mate and maybe supermakets being jacks of all trades dont look after their tanks and fuel as well as a service station whos specialist subject if fuel for cars. I also wonder how long super may have been stored in some fuel stations where regular and diesel are the most often brought. either way I am now a Vmax buyer only :thumb:

Are you sure the E5 isn't just for regular motor spirit . I can assure you the super that leaves the refinery I work at has no ethanol added.

Next time you see a tanker at the Petrol station. Follow it back and watch it get loaded on the same bays as all the other brands. As I said earlier the only difference is the individual brands add there own additives. It is such a small amount that it could never make it up to 5% ethanol. That is not added to super

That being said I only use Shell. Even though I know there is very little difference

If they want to charge me €8 a pint when I'm Skiing, you have to say your self your not in the Rugby Club @ €4 a pint, even if I drink 4 pints each evening before the 'free red wine' kicks in, then that's €96 extra per week to drink in best ski area in the world rather than Birkenhead :?:

So £84 to drink or just go home ? Or as I like to think about it about an hours investment return on my pension on a good day 🤔

I'm sure there is a similar cost excercise on fuel but right now I don't have time to execute that calculation I have to go to my local Shell for an expensive fill up ( I really must get a Shell Card ) On the plus side I worked out how to increase my cash back on Santander Credit Cards so we're all good here :D

The petrol price has nothing to do with Opec, Labour or the Tories. The Brexit vote caused the £ to fall from $1.68 to the current $1.34. Oil is based on $ price.

When oil was $110 plus dollars petrol was £1.36, Brent oil is only $70. More pain to follow unfortunately.

Um, not quite

Brent Crude closed at $78.5 for start, having touched $80 on Thurs

And whilst yes, you are right it's bought in $ and, yes, the pound tanked after that vote, the pound has strengthened considerably over the last year, so by your logic the peak should have been a year ago. It should now be getting cheaper. About >10% from the peak, given there has been a >10% recovery.

No the rise prices are trending with the price of oil (which Labour nor the Tories have any influence on, OPEC somewhat but less than they did) and the dollar rate is a secondary, currently anti-inflationary, brake on that trend.

An interest rate rise would help (the £ would gain more, as it did when one was speculated) but then I'd just pay it on my mortgage instead - cue the older chaps without one :puh:

Ive filled up my cars on either tesco momentum or shell v power (depending upon which garage im near at the time) for the last 9 years and had no problems at all. I do about 15,000 miles a year. Ive done 30k alone in the 997 turbo, majority of that on tesco momentum and not noticed any issues. I do notice my car & bikes do seem to feel like they have a little more power running v-power, but that might be purely psychological. Whether its worth the 25p a litre more it costs over tesco im not sure. I guess very roughly, that works out at a "savings" of £585 a year for me, but for someone using their car as a weekend toy the savings would be negligible.
