OP needs to ask that question .. if he doesnt ask then the OPC is unlikely to make a request on his behalf .. customer has to request it was the rules when i was at OPC .

There should certainly be a good will contribution imho .

I will call Porsche GB tomorrow and see if my violin skills get me anywhere. This a Porsche No.9 for me so I'm hoping brand loyalty will help.

Ask the dealer. They fill in a questionnaire and get it in motion. I got some from Porsche and some from the dealer.

Sorry to hear about your PDK issues, what a pain in the backside that is !

Is that £9k for a new box plus
VAT
Labour
Other associate bits
Oils, grease etc

Or is that £9k all in ?

The reason I ask, is it's always a bit of mystery as to how these items really do cost, fortunately for me I'm just about to pick up Turbo from OPC with its new shiny 2 year warranty, unfortunately it also means my credit card will take a large battering too - Swings & Roundabouts I guess.

JP,
Give Austrin Gearbox Specialists a ring. There at Benton industrial estate. fully qualified to dismantle all the ZF stuff.
ive just had my Audi A8 box fully refurbed from them.
Think the boss is called steve

I already spoke to them and whilst they have the skills to repair the box, they said that Porsche won't sell any spares, so couldn't offer there services.

It's an all in price, or will be when they've finalised it. Box istelf is exchange only.

Did you ask them why it is exchange if they are not fixable?

Porsche AB will not allow dealers to "fix" the boxes, they will only allow them to do standard diagnostics and if it's not a software issue they must be returned as an exchange for a new unit. Quite an interesting topic when you think that the majority of boxes across all models are now PDK...

Well to a degree that's a relief that it's not plus plus plus and Porsche Tax but still a bill you'd think wasn't coming

Is that the one from Newcastle :?:

If so, it's a Tiptronic like mine. I had a free replacement box at 50k miles and another 10k miles after that. You might be glad of that warranty.

No no..... It's the Red Turbo Manual I bought back in January, I just bought a warranty from the local OPC but I've been on holiday so it's been there for 3 weeks on holiday too :D 111 point check done and passed etc etc etc

I'm sure I read here a while back that the PDK box was made by ZF for VAG/Porsche and is sold variously as PDK/S Tronic/DSG etc.

I thought at the time the member who made the claim seemed quite knowledgeable his point being that as a ZF product it could repaired by a ZF agent assuming that parts are available of course.

A few years back it was said that PDK replacement would be £12k that's not going to be viable in future when cars drop in values to say c£25k, perhaps then they will become repairable!

That it's a ZF unit is well known. They make a few variants for Porsche and it's unlikely the 911 ones get used anywhere outside Porsche. A quick Google for 7DT-45 will bring up the two 911 varieties (2WD and AWD) plus the Cayman/Boxster version.

I seem to remember finding the box was updated in 2011 and then in 2012 when the 991 appeared.

It would be great if someone would start rebuilding them. I've not seen any repaired in the U.K.

Most of the replacement quotes posted on the Internet are hugely inflated. I think the £12k is one they liked to mention in the context of warranty renewal. Real cost in a 997 is about half that all in before any goodwill.

Magic919, thanks for that explanation it makes sense £12k for a warranty but much less outside warranty, I could live with £6k - just.

As time goes by there will be an increasing need for PDK rebuilds, let's hope that a Hartech type operation comes along to meet the need.

Porsche GB have offered me a goodwill contribution which effectly gives me a free PDK box. Ancilliaries, oils/fluids and Labour charges etc. will still see a bill of circa £3k from the OPC in Newcastle, but I'm grateful for the gesture and have approved the repair work now. No boxes available in the UK though so there's one on its way from Germany for me 👍

Jp - that's great news and good to see Porsche doing the right thing. I actually remember being in OPC at Munich with my old 997 once and having a good chat with one of the parts guys there. He mentioned that I should be glad that my car was manual rather than PDK as it was "impossible" to repair the PDK units...any issue = a new 'box.

Good news. The box should arrive quickly and hopefully you'll be back on the road in a week.
