What happens if my battery dies while I'm away?

Hi everybody, I have what is most likely a very stupid question but I just want to be on the safe side.

If I leave my car for over a week and my battery dies (I'm hoping it won't as I installed a new Bosch battery not too long ago), will my alarm go off non stop meaning my neighbors will burn my car by the time I get back?

I would disconnect the battery but the fact I wouldn't be able to lock the passenger door is a bit of a no-no in my current situation.

I'm hoping the alarm won't just go off when/if the battery is flat as I'd hope it would have its own reserve power...

Well .. for a start if it goes flat then it wont start when you get back :D

Im afraid though , being serious , the alarm monitors voltage .. if the battery starts to get low it will trigger the alarm .

For a car to go flat in a week then it has a problem .. a battery discharge .. if your are concerened then i would have a battery discharge check done just in case .. no discharge and it will be fine for a week .

I would also double press the lock button .. it will turn off interior monitoring .

Haha, thanks deMort, appreciated as always!

It's actually for 10 days rather than a week. I have left the car for a week a couple of times and have not had any problems.

Thanks for the double press trick, didn't know about that. I'm guessing I could leave my neighbor my key and they could deactivate the alarm if it were to go off.

How long do you reckon a battery under normal circumstances would take to go flat?

Could you not hook up a trickle charger such as the C-tek ?

Is the car parked close to your house ? Could you not Run an extension lead out and hook up a trickle charger?

The battery should last 10 days if you put it to sleep as Demort says......

Actually, since replying to deMort I have been looking at CTEK chargers (BTW, any suggestion on which is the best one for a 996.1? I'm researching that at the moment.)

Yep, my car is parked right outside my living room. So if I could get an extension from the charger to the living room and I could close my window on the cable, then I might just go for that option. I might need a 5m extension though.

I found a good post by GT4 on here which I am using as inspiration.

Lidl do a ctek type battery conditioner for about 15 quid. It works really well. Mine is plugged in to the fag lighter on an extension lead.

Ill leave others to say which type of charger is best .

For a battery to go flat enough to trigger an alarm then my guesstimate is 6 weeks ish ... id probably push it to 8 depending on the battery type .

After about 4 weeks then it probably wont spin over very fast .. might do depending on battery charge lvl and battery capacity when left but your into that sort of time limit .

Thank you all, really appreciate the replies!

@segart: found the thread where they were speaking about this. Will have a quick look around for it.
