Kline exhaust for 996 Carrera C2?

I'd be damned interested to know if the manifold designs are as closely related?!!
- £450 for the Top Gear manifolds is plenty appealing..

TG have a vid embedded on their page re. the full system - always had to get a real feel from a vid, but.... the last minute or so as they pass into the tunnel are 'interesting'......

I would too!

What do you mean by "interesting"?

The guy driving seems to be holding back (considering he's recorded the sales pitch for an exhaust) - there only appears to be one part where he really opens it up.... but then you realise he's just reacting to the appearance of a tunnel the way most of us do : )

Yeah I saw that, looks like he go back through the tunnel later in the video - perhaps he was just driving with traffic and just couldn't open it up?

What did you think of the sound?

I think with these videos its more a case of focusing on what you don't hear, as much as what you do - no-one seems to be able to capture the true sound of an exhaust in person with youtube
i.e. didn't sound boomy, didn't sound overly "shrill" at higher revs, didn't sound too guttural/dustbin-like at idle/low revs (which doesnt suit a water cooled 6 cylinder boxer engine to my view)

I'm pretty tempted to add a set of Topgear manifolds to my set up
- I dont imagine they'll really add any power or totally change the sound, but the materials should be better able to survive the conditions they are subject to (as long as you periodically replace the bolts) and they shouldn't introduce any restrictions or ruin the sound of the car (which is the impression I took away from my brief spell with the "ebay specials")

....I'm almost wishing my current manifolds to start getting tatty so that I can justify it....... : )

I know what you mean. Just to let you know that it's me in the video - I don't work for Top Gear, but I had just had the 200 cell cats fitted by them and they asked of they could strap a Go Pro on a do a video. The cats were added to their sport sound boxes and manifolds, which were put on by the PO. The traffic was the reason I couldn't open it up until I came to a very short tunnel when I gave it some beans, turned around and went back through again. :thumb:

@fastlane

have you got a linky for the vid - can't see it on their site...?? :?

It's a good job I'm fairly diplomatic..! : )

a better detective might have put together the clues from the Zanzibar(?) car in your pic and the details in your signature

How do you rate the manifolds specifically? Did you get a chance to run the car for long with just the manifolds and backboxes, prior to fitting the x-pipe to give a comparison to how those elements compare to stock/oem...?

I think I'm already sold on a set of manifolds based on their x-pipe - the cargraphic backboxes I have suit my taste too well to consider changing, so I imagine the overall combination I'd end up with would make me more than happy re. my overall system (unless I find £5k sitting in the street, in which case Kline are getting an order for a full system..... in SS obviously!)

No problem - you were very diplomatic and I agree the footage isn't fantastic and you can't really get a good idea from a video, hence me asking what you think!

In answer to your question, I am very happy with the manifolds. The PO (Chief on here) fitted the manifolds first (after the specialist spent 8 hours sorting out the rusted bolts!) and then a few months later the back boxes - all about 3 years ago. I bought the car off Chief just over a year ago and so can't comment on the sound vs the OE setup (it had the non-switchable PSE on originally). Top Gear fitted the (standard) 200 cell cats in April this year (for a very good price). The sport boxes are very loud (too loud for an everyday car) and they are even louder with the sport cats. I think I like the sound but ideally I'd need someone to drive past me to really tell, and my wife refuses to drive my P&J!

I've got the Top Gear Sport boxes fitted to my car with standard CATs and manifolds. I don't think that it's too loud, nice muted rumble on start up that won't annoy the neighbours early in the morning and a lovely sound when I give her the beans BUT there is a bit of drone between 2000 - 3000 RPM in 6th on the motorway. Once above 70mph it's a higher pitch which seems fine to me, I mainly drive alone with the stereo on so I don't notice it but if you are having conversation with a passenger at sensible speeds it is annoying. Best to stick it in 5th or drive faster.
I would imagine that 200 cell CATs would make it worse and if I was going that route I would probably change to the milder road back boxes.

I had exactly the same problem with the droning at 2000-3000, but luckily/strangely the cats have actually reduced the noise so it isn't a problem anymore. However, the car is now much louder higher up the rev range.

Ah ha, so the CATs helped reduce the drone?
Would you mind giving me an indication of how much louder the Sport boxes were with the CATs, were they similar on idle (good for neighbours) and only louder when nailing it?
At between 70-80mph on the motorway was the noise intrusive.

Any feedback much appreciated.
Thanks,

Yes they reduced the drone. The sound at idle is similar, but quite a bit louder once you start accelerating and certainly louder at motorway speeds - not too offensive but certainly noticeable. If it was an everyday car, I'd probably just swap out the sport boxes for the quieter ones.

That was my plan, Alex at Top Gear emailed me to say that if I bought some 200 cell CATs they would fit them for free and also swap my Sport boxes for mild road at no additional cost if I could leave the car with them for a few days so that they could make a video clip. Unfortunately I can't do that at the moment as I live in Kent and it's my daily driver.
How great is that for customer service though?!
Top gear = Top company

Wow! that is great customer service! :worship:

One last enquiry Fastlane if you don't mind.

Did you notice much of a performance increase with the 200 cell CATs?
Any difference in the way the power was made?
Thanks,
