Service Time and I am dreading it!

Hi All,

Well service time has come around again and quite frankly I am dreading the experience.

I bought a 997.2 C4S just over 2 years ago and had it serviced at OPC Reading which ended very, very badly (paint on 4 panels and a new window, long story). Service time has come around again and I am in a quandry as who to use for the service, all I want someone who will take care and not damage the car while performing the necessary.

My local OPC is Swindon but my trust in the official dealers has taken a real beating so I am looking at other options, car still has 8 months Porsche warranty left.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Thanks
Pete.

I can thoroughly recommend OPC Bristol as I've been very happy with them and use them rather than my local OPC. Their service manager is excellent.

Another vote for Bristol OPC from me.

Be worth asking them not to wash it anyway though just in case. :thumb:

Leicester OPC have a good rep. Little blast up M40 and the Fosse way for you.

If it has to be an OPC then i cant recommend my usual Indys ..

Although its a long way from you i can recomend Mid Sussex .. lets put it this way .. ill have a chat with the service manager (he knows me well) and have the best possible care taken of your car .. if you wish to travel that far then i would be happy to pull a few strings for you .

If you do then you could always drop by where i work as im not a huge distance from there .. i always love to chat to forum members given the chance :D

Since 2003,I understood that a new car warranty would apply so long as OE parts were used and servicing followed the manufacturers recommendation.
I take it that only applies to the new car warranty and the Porsche extended warranty is therefore exempt.
Good luck in finding an OPC you can trust after your previous experience.

Depends if the car has an OPC Warranty. If so, then understandable to use OPC. No idea how the ones down that part of the world are. If the warranty is not an issue, then you have a wider choice using indy specialists - but don't expect much in the way of savings versus OPC for routine servicing if using OPC offering fixed price servicing and Modern Classics labour rates.

Even amongst OPCs they vary. Some are Porsche owned, like Reading! I've used Cambridge, Guildford and Brooklands and no harm has ever come to the car.

Swindon are not Porsche owned. I'd try them if I was closer. I work near West London, but I'd never go there.

I've just used Swindon for the first time and can give them a thumbs up based on today's experience. All good.

I've also had problems at Reading in the past. The guys in parts have always been very good though.

The stock at Swindon was also far more impressive than Reading which made it worth the trip on its own: 991 GT2 RS; 991 GT3 RS; 991 GT3 Touring; 991 GT3; 997 Sport Classic; 981 Spyder, to name but a few.

Oppositish end of the M4..

Of the OPC's I have used, I choose to use Brooklands, even though others are closer - great service and down-to-earth, in complete contrast to the arrogant attitude at West London. Doubt I'd use East London again either, but that's another matter..

I've also used Cardiff who were excellent, and went beyond expectation to get my car back in time - I'd use them again when convenient.

I'd contacted Brooklands before I did so with Swindon for this recent service because Brooklands' website has a lot of info about their knowledge of the air-cooled cars and they do get many positive comments on this forum.

I called them on a Saturday morning and was promised a call back on the following Monday but didn't hear from them at all. They didn't just lose this service they lost the opportunity for any future business from me. Maybe they weren't a participating centre for the particular service that I required but it would have been nice of them to at least make a two minute call and let me know. It's just common courtesy isn't it?

Hi All,

Many thanks the comments and suggestions, I would prefer to keep this local so looks like Bristol or Swindon, will make a couple of calls.

DeMort, thank you for your kind offer, it is much appreciated.

Pete.

Recently had the same quandary and spoke to Reading, Silverstone and Brooklands. I found Brooklands far more engaging when discussing the car's requirements and their price was better too. Reading was nearly £400 more and when I asked if they do the fixed price servicing or could price-match an OPC that does, it was a flat "no".

Anyway, the fact that Brooklands Service Centre's core business is as a Service Centre (with no new car sales, only used) ought to mean they are a little more focused on that.

I was very pleased with them and will use them again when the need arises.
