996 Turbo wanted - cash waiting

That is bad form if they didn't describe it a fubar!!

Slightly confused by ....

No test drives either? Strange? I've never driven a 997t....I might love it and the test drive alone may have been enough for me to decide I wanted it, but I might hate it....too much money to spend on a whim.

Yet in another thread (997.1 turbo values?) you mention you prefer the 996 and its more mechanical feel :dont know:

If you can you should at least test a 997t - so you can make an informed comparison.

(a recent Total 911 did exactly that and compared the 2 turbo models and concluded that if it was their money it would be going on the 7 - for exactly the converse of your point (first is best) - their point being that the 10 intervening years result in a better sorted car).

Ive owned a 996C4S, Driven a few 996t's and although havnt driven a 997 'turbo' ive Driven 997 in both gen1 and Gen2 form....I was simply saying budget aside, I prefer the 996 for what I personally want the car to do. The 997 is too modern for me. I want a weekend car that has a bit of a 'modern classic' feel. When I'm looking at 997s it doesn't do anything for me, whereas a 996 does. Everyone's tastes different.

Strange that a dealer would offer a car for sale with an interior in a state. Makes you wonder what else was mistreated if POs have not looked after the bit they spend their time in. Could it be that 52k isn't genuine, mine is on 59k and apart from the very slightest of wear in the driver's bolster, it's immaculate.

Just goes to show what Mistercorn (I think it was) said about assessing these cars by focussing on the shiny bits-its not always the place to be looking.

Good luck with the search, it looks like a good 996 has just been posted for sale by the way.

Probably wouldn't get much better than this, but priced accordingly.

Bit more than I'd like to spend really but does look nice....I've been seriously contemplating viewing the 996t at Hexagon.
The modern Classic have a nice black on black Manual with decent mileage and on the money.... :dont know:

There is this car that's been on my radar too...I've enquired - no BOSE or Nav and a earlier car but looks a decent car for fair asking? :?:

Your budget will get you into a face lift MY2002 car which is by far the more sought after. You'll notice this when you come to move it on - "its great car BUT many people after one of these want the later 2002 onwards facelift model"

Of course it will still give you pleasurable ownership but your budget can get you into a face lift model. But its your choice.

Sorry for highjack but what are the main differences between pre and post facelift cars ?

The usual reply will be the face lift has a glovebox and cup holders..........

From a PH's post:
The 996 Turbo was unveilled in late 1999 for 2000 model year.

The 2001 models gained electric switches to open the front and rear lids, and improved interior illumination.

2002 models were the so-called facelift cars: glovebox, twin cup-holders, soft-touch plastics, better ventilation, Bose sound system, an auto-dim interior mirror and a rain sensor.

*In 2002, the 996's rigidity and crash protection were both enhanced while the interior quality was improved *

* Remains contentious. Perhaps someone else who has Adrian Streathers book may be able to clarify

The contention here has always been with regard to whether this includes the Turbo.

My thoughts have always been that it's meant only to refer to the difference between a Gen1 and a Gen2 Carrera.

So I looked at a 997T today, which for the asking price was pretty poor cond....had a lot going for it. Manual, decent mileage, rare colour(cobalt)...bodywork wasn't too bad, but the interior was shagged! Not just normal wear and tear commensurate with age, but badly treated and beyond repair without some serious expenditure. Not for me.

To be honest I was a bit dissapoijntrd with the dealer....no test drives? Who in their right mind buys a £50k odd grand car without even driving it! Well obviously quite a few it seems, but a deal breaker for me.

Additionally to this it didn't give me the same draw as a 996. I think I am going to concentrate my search specifically to a 996T Manual. I've spent the last 2-3 weeks seriously considering other models including a 996C4S, a 997.2, and 997T, but the 996T is what Ive made up my mind I want.

So, if anyone has a 996t they are looking to move on or knows of any not yet advertised please let me know. I have a suitable cash amount sat waiting.

Out of interests, does anyone know what the X50 pack would add value wise?

Hi OP, was this car at an independent dealer in Slough? Only cobalt manual with 52k miles I can see for sale. What was it about the interior that let it down in your opinion?

My friends 996T is for sale at RPR specialist cars (Peter Richardson) Meridian Silver Manual Black Interior, a lovely well cared for car with full history 03 plate, tweaked and mental quick.
Check it out on the RPR website honest dealer with a good rep and his own 911 collection will blow you away, originally bought from Peter who is selling it on SOR basis, no stories and a very straight car.

[ot for me.

Kick plates inside the doors battered, loads of bad indentations in the rear seats, backs of both seats scuffed to bits, glove box and area surrounding it badly dented and marked, drivers seat looked like it had done 152k not 52k, drivers door card leather dented, drivers door grab handle badly scratched, scuff on rear bumper down to the black plastic, lacquer peeling on wheels, windscreen badly chipped etc....

Should have looked at mine mate
