My 993 is due a service. I have it done every 2 years due to very low mileage. Last service was done by Porsche Edinburgh.

I've decided to go to one of the specialists this year, and in order to minimise travel from Edinburgh I have been looking at the specialists in Northern England.

As far as I can see this narrows it down to Ninemeister (Warrington), Strasse (Leeds), and Hartech (Bolton).

Can the panel advise me on the preferred choice from the above three?

Many thanks

I live in Edinburgh and can highly recommend Motortune in Shotts. Peter knows everything there is to know about air-cooled Porsche. They are also very reasonable and will save you about 150 miles :thumb:

That's a brave admission... the illuminati are currently organising a meeting (lynch mob) to decide the course of action.

Lets hope it's a keeper as gaps in the history will result in it worth absolutely nowt...

I can recommend Revolution Porsche in Leeds, still a fair old trek from Edinburgh though.

They did my clutch and I was impressed with their attention to detail and customer service. Quite happy to show me the Old clutch and chat about the car.

I have a pal who uses Strasse for his 993, however, and rates them also.

Forgot to add...

Leeds OPC are porsche classic approved, this means cheaper servicing for cars over 20 years old. (Obviously they will try to upsell you work)

I have used Revolution since I got my 993 & been very pleased.

It's a long way to come, but choose the right route and it's a cracking drive :thumb:

9m are very, very good with 993's

Can't comment about Strasse, as not tried them.
Hartech also have a good reputation, but I thought their speciality was water cooled :?:

There's also Unit Eleven, Performance Porsche or Classic Car Workshop....

Problem is 9m, Unit 11 both very good both in Warrington just off M6 but you're stuck in Warrington. Hartech as said mainly concerned with water cooled. I did buy my 993 from them and I live in Bolton but you want to get stuck in Bolton either. Don't know Strasse but Leeds is ok (my Uni city).
What's wrong with Glasgow? Great city if you speak the language. There is a place at Bonnybridge (which isn't) who used to do my son's 944.
Imho I'd stick with Edinburgh OPC. Bolton OPC have always given me great service and their reception staff are very attractive.

Just to reiterate there are three really good indy options in central Scotland

Motortune in Shotts
SP Autobahn in Stirling
David Phillips Autos

These are all great options for servicing and would only look to the likes of Ninemesieter or Unit11 if you are looking to mod your car or rebuild engine.

As I said previously my experience with Peter at Motortune has been very positive and Stuart at SP is also good. David Phillips have a great rep but not been there personally.

Cheers

Nick

Thanks for all the great advice.

I want to use a specialist rather than Edinburgh OPC as I think there are fewer staff in the OPC's that know anything about air cooled cars, whereas the specialists have more experience. Rightly or wrongly I think a service stamp from one of the well known specialists is an asset in the service book.

Not too concerned about the drive south. My intention would be to leave the car for a week or so, and get a train back to Edinburgh. If there was any additional work required there would be plenty of time to order parts, etc.

Used unit 11 for many years, Jonny knows his air-cooled onions certainly and pricing fair. A word of warning, ninemeister will happily pull your pants down get a written quote before proceeding especially with their body shop. Can't fault their work but they certainly will charge you for it and their verbal quotes cannot be trusted at all.

9m then. Warrington on the main train line at Bankquay station their body shop is walking distance fron the stn. but main place is now quite a way off.

There are sevjeral good Indy's in Central Scotland, apart from those listed by Nick you also have George Morrison in Glasgow and Brian Millar in Edinburgh - Motortune are excellent - you'll spend more on fuel and train fares than the cost of your service......use the money you save to get it done every year

Glasgow Porsche are also good....

I've been using Unit11 in Warrington for the last 7 x years & can highly recommend them. Also used Performance Porsche in Brighouse as they also have a body shop, amazing place to visit & spend a few hours
