As time goes on, the cars goes through from being everyday drivers through to less sought after models, then through to being 'enthusiast cars' where the owners feel free to tinker and mess around as they please. With the increasing electronics in the cars now from the seats through to the suspension, will this continue from the 996 and 997 where it is now through to the 991?
I struggle to see how some modern cars will get through the big dip in the price with them needing so much specialist work. Will they just become uneconomic?

yes, when your car shuts itself down due to a fault code, or when you cant get it through an mot because a light came on,

i find it all depressing, i recently had a perfectly good astravan that had an abs light come on, the abs worked perfectly, two diagnostics told me it was the unit that was defective, when as i said it worked perfectly, the wheel sensors were fine, it actually drove me nuts as no one could tell me why and Vauxhall wanted £1200 to replace it, with them saying there is no guarantee the light wont come back on again, i sold it to someone for peanuts, he knew someone who got the light off, i had no luxury of finding someone who could do that,

its not motoring or car ownership, its fkin b*****ks brought to us by a bunch of control freaks.

This won't happen because as time progresses, the new technology will become more readily accessible and free. People will also become more educated on fixing electronic gremlins rather than mechanical faults.

eg: remember when you paid a local indy £50 to tell you why your CEL was lit?

or when Torx bolts were fitted on cars, or fuel injectors?

Everytime everyone panicked they couldn't tinker, twerk or fix. Few years down the road and you can buy the tools you need on eBay for a few quid.

Imagine in 10 years time when you can probably own a 991 and rev the engine from your mobile phone due to some andriod app you installed.

I still have a random dodgy tickover and I'm currently monitoring my fuel trims through my car stereo!!!! Proper Star Trek stuff. Imagine if I told you I could this when the 996 was launched - you'd laugh at me.

But I guess......that's progress. :dont know:
