Brake pad dampening disc

Hi,

Just stumbled across a euro car parts discount. There are a few but seems to be about 35% discount.

My rear brakes will need doing soon so wondered about getting everything in for that.

For std pagid discs, pads and wear sensors it all seems straightforward in terms of ECP only offering one option.

However, on the dampening disc they have 2 sizes, 28mm and 30mm.

Anyone know which I would need? its a '98 carrera 2.

Thanks

Dunno, but also try

Carparts4less, it's ecp but cheaper, also look for codes

autodoc.co.uk has a vast array of discs and pads and parts

And rockauto.com, they do the retainer pin and spring clip cheap if you need them.

I got discs from autodoc and textar pads from eBay seller.

There is an eBay seller doing discs and textar pads for £250

Great shout Wasz,

What am I missing though, even with dampening discs and wear sensors, the full package (using Pagid discs and pads) at car parts 4 less comes to £138.39, using a weekend discount code

Thats compared to £165, using a code, at ECP and anout £230 at Design 911.

Almost sounds too cheap!

Even if I dont fancy a go myself, presumably any reputable garage shout be able to change them for me?

They are only about 75% worn and I only do circa 3000miles a year so was just going to leave them until they really need doing. Having seen these discounts I was thinking perhaps I should just get some in. But maybe places like ECP have discounts pretty regularly so I dont need to panic!

Oh thanks Robertb.... think we must have posted at the same time so I missed yours.

As I say, I may just wait rather then being panicked into it.

Have to admit I just watched a couple of videos and am tempted to give it a go myself. Have changed discs on my old Caterhams before but always a bit nervous on the Porsche, both with my ability and with not having the specialist invoice for resale.

ECP/CP4Less are very cheap. Bought brake bits for the 4S from them. In this case it is not too good to be true! But yes offers come frequently, esp at public holidays, month end etc so no rush.

Get some Ceratec too, rather than copper grease.

I fitted my rear discs myself under the guidance of a more talented friend. It really was not difficult and very satisfying. Pads look reasonably straightforward, but I'll find out this weekend. Happy to help further if you need any more reassurance!

I'd not worry about the lack of service invoice... its a brake disc not the Large Hadron Collider.

Oh great, very informative thread. Sounds like I should give it a go. But, might just hang on until they really need changing.

Liking your 911 history on your signature Robert..... especially the 88 carrera sport.... must have been nice! :thumb:

Looks lovely.

Mind you I'm sure an E36 M3 EVO would have been nice too... guess we cant keep 'em all!

misterauto is another good site. I bought some discs and pads for my wife's ML and managed to get all 4 discs for £180!! That is for ATE discs which are OEM and 350mm....I love the savings!!!

Don't bother then... sound like you have about 5 years worth left in them!!!!

Oh and ECP, autodoc and CP4L are like DFS, always on sale so no need to rush. The biggest discounts are usually bank holidays and black friday so I stockpile parts at those times....

Don't forget to add a can of brake cleaner to your CP4L order to clean the oil off them when fitting.

One trick is to find the product on ECP, as their website is more comprehensive. Then copy and paste the product code into CP4L for a discount.

As I'm doing my front brakes I was also looking at replacing the pad shims AGAIN!

The cost is ridiculous for what they are so I'm going to make some stainless steel ones and will add this mod to my 996 thread once complete. This should save having to replace them each or every other time and hopefully they will last a good few year longer.

If you're not desperate for the parts sign up to ecp and they email when there's a dicount running, which is all the time. Every couple of weeks they have a flash 2 hour sale and on Thursday it was 50% off all brakes.

Thanks all, been inspired to give it a go myself but yep, definitely seems there's no need to rush and I will sign up to the mailing lists.

If I do a track day then I might change them before that but finances mean I don't have any planned to I'll hang on and save my cash for now.
