Porsche 911 cat c

CAT C check is a VIC check only - thats an identity check.

They check the serial number of major components and that they have not been tampered with.

They do not check the quality of the repair or anything.

You just need VIC check and an MOT to put a cat-c back on the road.

Autolign can check the car and remove the recorded marker on HPI for £££££. It will still show on a full history check though as being on and then removed, so a bit pointless.

Personally I think a cat d or n in the new designation is far enough.
Cat c is a bridge too far for me.

in the old system cat c or cat d was purely financial based on the whole claim.

So you can get minor damage and cat c if theres hire car charges etc. Or it could be fairly major damage. I had a cat c vw corrado that just had a knife slashed interior.

The key is knowing what the damage was for sure and not believing the tall tales of the seller without evidence.....

the new system is much better in that it gives you an idea of the damage.

I think you have seen the full-range of opinions on here....some will never touch it, others will buy one (usually with appropriate checks etc). If honest, not sure which camp I fall into - originally I would have been in the 'never-touch' camp, but listening to people on forums who bought completely safe Cat cars (such as Wasz's Corrado), makes me think twice

Personally, if this allows you to to get into Porsche ownership when you wouldnt otherwise (i.e. you dont have the extra cash) and you have satisfied yourself with regard to the quality of the repairs - then it seems a reasonable buy. As long as you intend to price it substantially cheaper than non-CAT cars at the time of resale, it seems to make sense financially.

pay another 9 and have a proper one,

the forces at work in a bang are unbelievable, when chassis's get bent the metal never goes back properly, i dont care what anybody says, everybody plays it down when they are selling one.

If the structural chassis was bent then it would be scrap, if the chassis is straight and has been properly checked then it would be fine!

I'd say £15k is borderline, anything less and it starts to look like nice cheap 911 and if you're a mechanic the I'm sure you could save ££s in servicing and maintenance!

Martyn , looks like you got yourself a nice 997 at a little under the right price for it. the big bonus for you is already knowing the car and the customer and being in the trade. its a 3.6 so the stronger engine. My suggestions are spend 1k and get the newer IMS bearings, do some research on these , being in the trade and mates/trade rates it will probably cost you 40% less than that but well worth doing on a pre 06 car as failure will be a rebuild and spoil your fun.
Then if it was me either enjoy your 997 ownership at a great price or spend some money modding it either way welcome to the forum and 911 ownership :thumb: :thumb:

Again thanks for all the opinions. Usually a cat c would have maybe scared me off but I do know the car well and have been over it for hours making sure the repair was good. I had a bodywork specialist look over it aswel and he was impressed as he couldn't tell either apart from a few small signs of paintwork. I had a look at the report on the car and there was no structural damage. We also have a hunter alignment machine at work so I did a full geo on the car and it's spot on which was reassuring! Its all well and good saying spend another 9 and get a straight one but I can't afford it, but this was the money I had to spend on a car. I managed to chop another 1000 off and have got it for 13k which personally I think I can't lose on. I think it's a good spec as it has the sports package and comes with cocoa leather interior which i believe isn't that common but you guys probs know better. Also comes with a private plate which is nice :thumb:

£13k

Enjoy driving it. :thumb:

I think most of us would buy that car for 13k with how you are describing it, bargain!!

Bargain at £13k.

Ignore the spend another £9k comment, some people live in a world of their own where £9k is nothing and don't realise other people don't. And the one about structural damage in a crash! If it was structurally bent it would be a Cat A or B...... Would be lovely if people researched what they were talking about before blithely putting a misleading comment up on a site because of ignorance!

Cat C and D cars are fine if properly repaired. It can literally because by the time an Insurance company pays the rates of storage and fixing then it would cost them more than its worth.

Enjoy the car, will be incredible fun. What did you have before?

911's are precision tools and nothing really gets close. Certainly not for £13k!

13k, Jeez. Proper bargain.

It'll have had to be that cheap to tempt me too, Even if you come to sell it and can't shift it for years (definitely not at 13k). You could break it for spares and make most if not all of your money back!

£13k   Fantastic, and well done :thumb:

What a bargain, and. Brilliant way to get into 911 motoring. Like others have said ignore the +£9k comment, we don't all have money to throw away! This is a great forum, not so much snobbery as some places.

Welcome :thumb:

:useless: :useless: :useless: :useless:

Get some pics posted. A bargain if ever there was one. You know exactly what you're buying and have clearly done your homework. Enjoy and gets some pics posted !!

Congratulations it sounds like you have found yourself a really bargain and got your dream car, nice work. The only thing to watch out for on the forum is getting talked into too many mods but that's half the fun. The coco interior as you say is not one of the common colours which is a bonus as well. So how about a photo of your new P&J :thumb:

Really? I'll get my bid in now for 13k, given you've crawled over it with some knowledge

Good work, but yes, let's see some pics
