PORSCHE logo on my ducktail

dp400 said:
Hi Les, so you DONT follow the curve of the bottom of the boot lid , you follow the curve of the bottom of the retractable spoiler which my car doesn't have being a ducktail?

I'll have to go have another look but I don't think the bottom of the ducktail is all that curved, if at all :?:

The distance between he bottom of the boot lid and the retractable spoiler is virtually parallel - just curved up at each ends, so I'd go from the bottom of the boot upwards for your ducktail. If you can crouch 10' behind your car (as if you in a car following you and it's looks OK then stick with that.

you have to follow the lower decklid curve

OP your ducktail looks great - you 100% need to follow the bottom curve of the decklid like all the previous tutorials states.... if you step back another car length you will notice very pronounced the P O R S C H E will start to frown downwards (i can already see it in your photo above).... the top of the decklid frowns downwards.

it will ONLY look straight if you follow the lower decklid, your car is much too nice to not do it properly :) .... its very easy to get the curve correctly by simply measuring from the bottom of the decklid.

i have had a few friends that was in a rush to do the badging, but ended up with the crooked frown and it bothered them ever since. Great call re the forums before applying the badging on for good.

my basic tutorial notes (i have kept everything as simple as possible re understanding + application) - complete with measurements. it has helped a few rennlisters re the project.

here are some proper badging samples (you can see the badging follows the bottom decklid curve and not the top based on the gap differences)

this was done at by OPC dealer - i based my kearning/spacing from this car (important if you want to do double row badging on a 997 properly)

i also did the badging for my best friends car as well

One more thing OP - lower your badging a little - if you look at the oem examples the 'Carrera S" the bottom of the S sits exactly at where the 997.1 taillight has the Red + clear intersection line - so the bottom of the carerra I would assume is about 5mm higher. 1/2cm Above the taillight red+clear intersection line where I would quickly do a test fit (with clear tape) for your badging.... if you feel it is still too Low you can easily shift up a few mm and then stand at least a car length back to see how it looks overall. All the measurements otherwise are mentioned in my link above.

Hope all this helps and I am looking forward to seeing how it turns out !

Thanks to one and all for invaluable advise.

Going from what you all have said it's gotta go on curved so the stencil is going to be of no use so I'll have to lay it out myself.

I'll do it next weekend when it hopefully won't be as damn cold and I'll post up piccys once done.

+1 for curving it

There is only one OPC in Dubai (check the plate), and it has been the single largest Porsche dealership for the last 8 years. Still don't know how they managed to ***** that up.
