Sleepy forum

Where is this massively bucolic "countryside" of which you speak?

Around us, the countryside roads feature:

Copious levels of cack, a potion containing a mix of mud and assorted animal effluents.
More potholes than a good Swiss cheese
Drivers who are either catatonic behind the wheel at 20mph under whatever the speed limit is at any given point, or suicidal tractor jockeys - Git ooooorrrrfff moy roooaaaddd!!!
A mysterious blanket imposition almost overnight of a 50mph speed limit and cameras.

As a result, I have added massively agriculturally treaded tyres to my daily, the 968 is going shortly, and I am not sure that it is worth holding on to the 993 either.

the persecution does get you thinking, my driving isn't as good since ive been looking at the speedo all day, yes i am not going over the limit, but my eyes are away a fair bit, it takes a split second for someone to go in the road, its no good setting the limiter as the speeds constantly vary,

my dad was treated terribly in my view, he was stuck behind a tractor blowing straw everywhere, he dident see the speed camera and briefly just put his foot down to escape the tractor, yes the **** got him at about 10mph over, he was observing the speed limit until that quick burst to get past.

i hope it goes well for you, nice if you could afford a specialist solicitor.

He could probably challenged that. I recently challenged a speeding offence via a specialist Solicitor and got it withdrawn.

I think the value of 993's and other classics generally have an adverse effect on forums.

When 964's and 993's were £12,000-18,000 they were extremely affordable for many enthusiasts who would happily tinker with them at home. They would service them, improve them, fix broken stuff, all that kind of thing.

Now they are £50k-£1,000,000 and are mostly being bought by people to put in a small 'collection' and will be trailered to specialists for a £3000 service.

Very few people buy a £100k classic and then go on an Internet forum to ask people how to change the oil on their driveway at home...

Hence why the 996/997 sections are the only ones that people post in these days

Good point. In my case, this forum serves as a great source of information - so good IMO that while i haven't posted in ages I do visit and search a lot because 9 out of 10 times, the DIY-related answer I seek is already here.

Undeniably there has been a shift to collector owners, and specialists have cashed in on the fact that collectors generally have deep pockets. For example, despite regularly using a reputed specialist for years (I've had my 993 since the early-mid 2000s) their charge for an Annual Low Mileage service has jumped from £225 to £432 in the last year alone!
