Looking for axle stands for my 993. Any recommendations? How much height can you get on these - for diy jobs etc?

thanks.

Usual question - if you use axle stands to raise the back of the car, where do you place the trolley jack? I have the rear under tray so I cannot use the engine (and I don't know enough anyway to know where to safely place the trolley jack under the engine even if I didn't have the rear under tray in place.

I have some ratchet stands from SGS, very easy to use and sturdy, like these:

Thanks they look like a saddle so wouldn't that damage the car? I'm reading that I should use Hockey puck type blocks which are flat? Some on eBay I see made for the 993.

Polyurethane Jacking Pads are manufactured by 993 owner and forum member ARP: http://911uk.com/profile.php?mode=viewprofile&u=33095

Shoot him a PM and i'm sure he'll be able to sort you a set. ;)

I've got the safejack axle stand that allows you to jack at the lifting points and place the stand in the same location. See pic of it in use at the rear lifting point...https://photos.app.goo.gl/JiFumCpt1gogNxap2

Thanks for the photo. That looks like a useful piece of design. How much?

You can order them on here...https://safejacks.com/products/the-rennstand-by-safe-jack

With shipping it ended up as 212 dollars and then import duty... so it was a bit pricey but its been absolutely perfect for working on the 993 brakes. I've also got a set of MR1 lifting ramps to raise the entire car off the ground.

Website says out of stock till Christmas! USD249 for 2 Rennstands, plus of course shipping and UK tax. Certainly an interesting option and probably better then the Scissor Lift I was thinking about. That costs over £1000 and needs to be stored

I think it always says out of stock, but you can place an order and in my case it was about 3 weeks before they came back to say mine was ready.

You jack it from the central rib on the crank case
I use a rolled up rag on top of a piece of softwood between the jack and engine this prevents any damage from metal to metal contact.

this is where i use axle stands on a 996t - might help ?

Slightly related but forget the axle stands. I'm looking for a scissor lift as we have just acquired a 2 car garage with workshop and cellar, comes with a house.
A confusing selection are available so any recommendations would be much appreciated. I need to have minimum lift of around 36" as I'm pulling the engine. The one from BH Engineering looks ok as does the Bendpak.

Have you seen this discussion on lifts?

My lift is 1000 mm (39.5") from ground to top of ramp - even more to base of engine which actually hangs out of the back of the ramp.

Occasionally I also remove the swivelling "access" and "depart" part of the ramp to allow more clearance whilst working at the back of the 993.
