So... off for a Rally driving day this Friday in mid Wales... weather is set to be cold but dry. Should I take the 993 for a blast or will the roads be covered in salt??

I'm not normally fussy about using the 993 but anyone live up round Brecon Beacons way and will the roads be grimey and salt covered? I have something pretty fun and Quattro I would take instead!?!

Need more info on the alternative :D

Weather getting colder as the week goes on... so, if the Pork is on winter tyres then no question, Pork all the way. If not then RS6. :thumb:

Yep, I'm in the Brecon Beacons, roads are plastered in salt!! leave it at home :hand:

Thanks Chaps.... think I just needed to hear sense... Audi it is!!

NIBrown.... lucky you, no boring motorway before you get to some superb roads and scenery!!

Jodes - I did a rally day (quite a few years ago), at the Phil Price Rally school - it was brilliant (also brought back memories of my first car - a 1977 Mk2 Escort).

I would definitely take the Audi, as I had to go down a lot of rutted tracks etc when getting to the rally school.

As you're a 993 owner and we're way off April I didn't expect you to 'have it available' as most or off-road until spring. Some of the more disciplined SORN them :floor:

Discipline never been one of my strong points... what's SORN😉

Kingb4... not doing Phil Price (although heard it's excellent!) Going to a place nearby called Forest Experience. I met the guy that runs it on a speed awareness course so should bode well!!

It's what pikey people do to save a few quid at the expense of not being able to use the car. Always makes me wonder what else is scrimped on?

Take the 993. I was up that way last weekend, bloody great fun. Just spent over £3K sorting the underneath out at the back of the car so all pristine ....... plus last week a further £600 getting the paint 'detailed', but hey ho. I didn't buy it to worry about getting it dirty :D

You'll be slipping and sliding all over the place on the parts that are slimy, but what a hoot compared to modern motoring. :thumb:

1st pic, Friday afternoon, car just picked up from detailing.
2nd pic, the next day after 200 mile playing around in Wales :D

Slightly off topic (sorry) but the salt comment got me wondering - is that really such a concern if you look after it and get it cleaned regularly? Salt isn't used where I'm now based but...taking the 993 back to UK for a week on Friday and am very much looking forward to stretching its legs properly.

Yikes, who are these people you speak of, they're probably running remoulded tires and everything!

Tbh Salt is a right sod. I had every nut bolt and washer replaced at the rear of my car mid December (all OEM parts), drove it for around 500 miles over two trips over Christmas and washed the underneath of the car in the 2nd week of January.

By then, there was already light corrosion on ALL the new parts. I was absolutely gobsmacked they'd started to deteriorate that quickly.

Photo shows new clamps, nuts, bolts and washers after one month and <500 miles.
