Checking service history

I bought mine without a stamped book, but did have all the service receipts. I did have it checked over, there were a few minor bits to sort, so not too precious on the stamped book. As others have said if it doesn't feel right walk away.

But... come sale time I know I'll be knocked for no stamped book.

Not necessarily, I had this with an old Golf that I had.

I had the receipts, but they still had the records on computer so I sent it to the VW garages and they stamped my new book for me.

Worth a try :thumb:

Cheers, mainly through Reading Porsche, then specialist. 10 service invoices in total. I'll give it a shot, might even increase it's value :thumb:

Rivervale are now Porsche Centre Mid Sussex,
You might be lucky giving them a ring, but the stamp looks 100% genuine to me

How long do the OPC records go back, generally?

Presumably you need to know the reg of the car at the time, if it was on private plate... or can they search by VIN?

I have a stamped book, and bills from the last few owners, but I would like to go back and get more info to see if there are any records of any non-scheduled work done, though I appreciate they are constrained by data protection.

All depends on what the price is.

Re-negotiate, factoring in the punt for missing records, PPI inspection, leak down checks etc..etc..

If all checks out okay and the price is amazing then go for it.

If not...

Be prepared to walk away and lose cash on your reports and due diligence.

There are plenty out there so it would have to be a stonking deal to warrant the punt.

Just remember, you'll have all the same queries about missed history when you sell on. The only way to mitigate this is if you have to spend a boatload of cash to rectify, repair and/or maintain the car during your ownership.

I agree that the 15 year+ history is less relevant. That said, without any recent history and/or any signs of loving expenditure this car will always be at the lower end of the price scale.

Good Luck! :thumb:

If you show me the pictures of both stamps and the dates i can kinda verify it ..

The Rivervale one looks totally legit but i cant see the date .

I started at Mid-sussex 6 monthes after they moved from Rivervale so mid 2003 is when they finished tradeing .

I also work with 2 mechanics and a service manager that used to work there .

As for IntaPorsche .. that was run by the late Don Manley and i worked on the same site but for a different company many years ago .

One of the mechanics that used to work there is a service advisor at mid sussex .. another is our parts manager !

The Rivervale stamp date is 24-10-03

Looks legit , would not ring alarm bells for me

I would be more bothered about current condition than what the book says.

I managed to buy a golf gti edition 30 from a main dealer with hat appeared a perfect service history . It was all bull ... but only figured it out when i got the car home and had a much closer look at it.

Luckily got my money all back.

That would be just about their final days before they moved out .. pretty much THE final day !

I can soon confirm it next week if needed .

Demort,
If the stamp looks legit, no need to check the records, thanks for offering.

The reason I'm asking is because the font and logo isn't in the Porsche script. Plus many of the garages that have worked on the car are no more, which makes me a little suspicious.

I need to concentrate on what's been done recently, by the looks of it not a lot. Which means the next keeper will doing it. So I will adjust my offer accordingly.

jfyi

The last two stamps in my service book are in a non-descript font and none of them have the Porsche logo.

They were all done at OPC Tonbridge.

That's why I like electronic service records a la MB.

Means a little more red tape I guess.

Porsche service records are held electronically but only go back to whatever date a particular OPC went computerised. Records can be sourced from any OPC that's in the same franchise group.

My point about my OPC Tonbridge stamps is that they were all done by Tonbridge.
