997.2 engine failure: rebuild or replace

I had the same sensor alert, which was the car needing the software update with the new engine (2013). That was 40k plus miles ago and it has been fine since.

I'd ignore the rubbish that the engines arrives run in. Porsche just build them and stick them on a pallet.

I made sure the new engine was up to temps and used higher revs, but not high load. I skipped the next Euro trip that year, as the new engine was still quite fresh to take vmax on the autobahn.

Good that your saga is coming to an end. Nice mods too, all make sense, you should find the DSC module will modernise the ride, make it more supple but more controlled. Look into what spacers you can use with those wheels, I had those and couldn't use Porsche spacers as they weren't compatible. Good luck!

+1 on the TPC Racing module

I'm running 12mm TPI spacers with those rims.

Thanks for the TPI reference. i'll have a look. Most recommendations are 5-7mm at the front. But from the photos you posted in the past, 12mm looks good ! And i guess it is not about about the C4S vs C2S difference, as I think the difference is inly on the rear axle anyway.

Have you put the exhaust tips back on

Glad it's all sorted for you, it's a great looking car Brice 8)

When you're happy with the running in period and oil is changed, buy a bmc air filter and ask the guys at rpm to fit while the oil is getting done.

Then hear the howl  its very addictive.

Good luck :thumb:

PS- if you were to buy it now, my guess is it would've cost you a bit more than 3k over than what you originally paid for it with a new engine.

I don't think I'm wrong in thinking that , a new engine would command a premium.

Well done to RPM.

Does the BMC filters make much a difference to the intake noise from the cabin:

Back to the OP, great that you're back and running.... I'd be planning a trip to Scotland and back for the sake of it

I certainly need to organise a Scotland trip. I did it several times in different cars in the past, but never with the 911.

Regarding filters, I have to admit I am cautious about perfomance ones. I reading a technical review not so long ago (although I do not remember where...) where they were testing the amount of particles going through. The conclusion was there there is no magic. The high air flow filters tend to let much more dust in. Nothing came close to the OEM paper filter in protecting the engine. It made me think this mod is not for me. But it is perhaps just me being overly cautious on the back of an engine failure !

Re performance air filters.

Many on here have had it done and yes, it makes a difference

My specialist put mine in at the last service and noticed straight away that the car pulled a little better.

I've also got the smooth silicon intake pipe with resonator blanking cap so, not sure if that aids it in anyway.

Mines a gen 1 so the airbox is different on gen2.

More noise above 5k rpm too 8)

What's not to like :thumb:

I tried BMC filters in my gen2 didnt notice any difference so flogged them on ebay.

I just saw this thread and I have viewed this car back in September. I was very close to making an offer to Greig. During the test drive there was nothing I felt that could give this away.

And I saw a C2 (non S) at the OPC which was in my price range. I guess a lower millege and pristine condition with the comfort of buying from a OPC it didn't really matter to me whether it was a S or not. Only negative is that my car is very basic.

Non S I think are still very quick cars and it will be challenging to use that extra power at higher rev ranges in general use and on the track you got to be very very good to take advantages of the extra BHP.

I guess apart from the power there are a few things extra over the Non S as well.

I believe the previous owner traded the car in for a Cayman R?

Anyways good to see a good outcome, you have a Carrera S with a new engine :thumb: Interior was in good condition from what I remember. And I love those Carrera Sport alloys...

Happy motoring!!!!
