And any idea how it works?

Cheers
Rick

That's the widget for connecting a battery charger to for operating the bonnet latch solenoid if the battery is flat.

Thanks Robert. Any idea what would the 'male' end of the plug might look like?

You just put your finder in the hole in the fuse box cover and pull the cover off, you will see a red connector close to the bottom, pull that out and put the positive + lead from a jump starter or battery jump lead on this and the negative lead on the cars bodywork, ie the door catch.
Always connect the positive lead first and always remove the negative lead first when doing this.

For the earlier cars there is no such piece of equipment! Mine has a cable operated engine lid which did not appear to be locked out by the low battery so could power up from the engine jump point. The other solution is to use this to put 12v to fuse c3 To get power to release the frunk

@ asterix_the_gaul ..

The panel for the boot/bonnet release handles is held in place by x3 5mm allen key bolts .. pop the bungs along the side of the trim and insert allen key to slaken but not undo then pull the trim upwards and off of the trim clips .. just pull it basically .

The lock solinoid for the levers is there and you can either move it or remove the lock rod to open boot/bonnet .
