I was thinking about upgrading the shifter in my 996.2 GT3. Im just not convinced that I've got the correct part number...

I went in to my OPC today and asked for a price for a Gen 2 997 GT3 shifter. They told me that the part number is 997 424 010 00 - £142.27 + vat

I've checked the PET for the 997 GT3 and it says that part # 997 424 010 00 is for '08 cars and part number 997 424 010 91 is for '10 and later...

Can anybody confirm which shifter/part # I should be going for? Is there a difference between these two shifters?

Any help would be much appreciated...

thats not the right one the OE gt3 shifter with the metal bearings is more like £300 ish but cant remember where I wrote the part number down :dont know:

I've got the quote on paper from the OPC 997.424.010.00 £142.27+vat.

Maybe the one for the Gen2 cars is circa £300?

yes you may be right , they seem to do three the 997 stock shifter , the 997 SSK plastic bushings and the GT3 one with the metal bushings which is not as short as the SSK but shorter than the stock one but it has the rifle action due to the metal bushings. :thumb:

997 GT3 up to 2010 is circa 15% shorter throw than the 996 - This comes with plastic bushes.

997 GT3 2010 onwards is exactly the same throw but has metal bushes and costs circa twice as much.

997 Short shift is circa 40% shorter, personally I would avoid this, yes the throw is shorter, but it's also stiffer and more notchy and as such takes longer to change gear.

crash, number two when you say exactily the same throw , do you mean as the stock shifter or as the up to 2010 gt3 shifter so 15% shorter than stock but with the metal bushes. :thumb:

2010> GT3 is same throw as >2010, so 15% shorter than stock, but I refer to stock as being a 996.

Only differerence between >2010 & 2010> GT3 is the metal bushes, throw is the same.

However, the standard 996 throw is long, I believe the stock 997 throw is shorter, but am not sure by how much, thus on this premise I do not think you would gain a 15% reduction by fitting a 997 GT3 shifter on a 997 - This however would need ratifying as I am no 997 expert, but mention as I would hate for you to buy and gain no benefit.

That would make sence as I have read reports from guys who said on a 997 the one with metal bushes didnt feel shorter than stock but was much much better with the more precise rifle/bolt action feel . and guys with 996s say it does feel shorter which now I understand the 996 stock throw is longer than the 997 make everything clear. Thanks for the explanation.
currently I have a 997 SSK fitted which is shorter than stock but is horrible to get into gear when its cold hence toying with either the 2010 gt3 shifter or the Function first metal bearing upgrade kit which will fit all OE Porsche shifters or aftermarket SSK , my theory being I would end up with the more presise feel of the metal bolt action but on a short shift kit for the 997.
