993 RS engine mounts - installation question

Help needed please with installation of the large washers for the RS engine mount set. I recently got my local independent Porsche specialist to install a set of RS engine mounts on my 993 C2. I was surprised to see that he put the large washers (the ones that directly contact the rubber of the mount) with the flange/lip facing AWAY from the rubber.

I assumed that these washers would be installed with the flange 'cupping' the rubber, but he assured me (with his 43 years experience in the business) that this is the correct way to install them.

I have tried to find an exploded diagram of the assembly without luck - any pics I have found are inconclusive.

Anyone got the definitive answer on how these washers should be installed?

I attach a photo in which I hope you can see that the lip of the washer is up and away from the rubber. It's the same for all 4. Thx in advance!

I'd say that's wrong, looking at various images on google and Jackals-forge.com the flange is pointing into the rubber.

The whole point of the washer as far as im aware is in case the rubber fails then it stops your engine dissapearing down the road .. falling on the floor basically so its a safety part .

Most suspension items do have the washer cone up but i agree with Cameltoe & Heel here as every one i have looked at is down .. not sure it makes any difference though as either way will do the same thing .

More chance of metal to metal with it down I would think. Curve up I say. Not that I know owt, but I've fitted dampers before and the cups have been upward on other cars.

Makes sense but a bit of an affront to the eye also puddles water.
We need an untouched RS owner to point us in the right direction.

I'll give James a prod, he has an RS so will no doubt confirm either way :)

James supplied the pic below taken from his original RS

Thanks Trev, couldn't post the pic from my phone. :thumb:

Thx one and all for the feedback. I've now seen 3 pics from what I am told are original RS cars with the washer flange pointing towards the rubber. That's good enough for me... I'm off to get mine swapped round the correct way.

Thanks! :thumb:
