Porsche Goodwill gesture???

Thought i would put this up to see if anyone else had any dealings with Porsche GB.

I own a 2008 Boxster S recently I noticed that on the offside rear light lens (being the all red version) that the silvering was starting to come off inside the lens on the horizontal surface near the top right of the lens. Looking at the other lens this appears to be starting to do the same.

Due to the age of the car and low mileage (30,000) I wrote to Porsche GB. They have come back stating that this is not a regular occurence and is likely to have been caused by an outside influence?

Both the lens are in perfect working condition, no cracks or damage no leaks and where they are sited in the rear boot make it impossible for them to be damaged by something in the boot etc. Regarding a goodwill gesture they have stated that as the car was purchased outside the Porsche centre network, and not having a full Porsche service history, the vehicle has no warranty and this is not a known manufacturing defect they have declined to help.

The car has been serviced every 2 years twice by main dealers most recently by Porsche Sheffield and twice by Porschtek. I was under the impression that manufacturers cannot swerve their responsibilities since the recent European directive on warranty and specialist service history. I have owned several porsches over the last 10 years and numerous other cars, and have never had this kind of problem with the rear lights.

Clearly as both lights are showing this fault this is not caused by an outside influence. I am considering a claim under merchantable quality as surely rear light lens should last more than 9 years particularly from such a brand as Porsche.

Has anyone else had similar problems and can Porsche just rule out any goodwill gesture if not all the services are by them, bearing in mind the last one was. Any helpful advice much appreciated

That sounds similar situation to the 997.2 rear lights that fog up as the LEDs dont give off enough heat to stop moisture from forming , clearly a manfacturing/design fault ,but they are reluctant to assist unless you have a Porsche warranty. :nooo: :nooo:

I think you'll struggle on this one chum given the age of the car irrespective of mileage.

You 'might' have got a goodwill gesture if you had OPC warranty on it and likely they might have sorted it without admitting liability. If they won't cough up to borescore (apart from if in warranty) you'll have no chance.

How much are replacement parts on the 'bay :dont know:

I'd say "no chance' - car is coming up to 10 years old and Porsche are not noted for their generosity in terms of customer goodwill....

"surely rear light lens should last more than 9 years particularly from such a brand as Porsche". If you are an avid viewer of this forum you should know by now that post 1997, "build quality" and "cutting edge design & engineering" are no longer in the Porsche vocabulary. Once you have parted with your hard earned cash for one of their products the company are no longer interested if something goes wrong no matter how serious.

New rear lens are about £200 each, not something that should need to be replaced every 9 years though

If you were the first owner of the car and/or it had full OPC history I'm pretty sure that Porsche would have made some sort of goodwill gesture.

Regarding the 'not of merchantable quality' thing, would the car pass an MOT? If so, I'm not sure that cosmetic deterioration would give you grounds for a claim after 9 years. In any case I would have thought your claim would have to be made against the person who sold the car to you.

On a separate note regarding 'warranty'. The European legislation you refer to means that the original new car warranty would not be invalidated if the car had been serviced (subject to guidelines) outside of Porsche BUT any subsequent warranty/policy would not be covered by it.

On eBay you can get a new pair for less than £200 :dont know:

Really?

You expect them to replace parts FOC on a ten year old used car?

:pc:

How many 9 year old cars have this problem? very few, was looking for a contribution not replacement.

I cant say that i have seen this before although a picture would help .

I would agree that you probably have a manufacturing defect but at 10 years its hard to argue that point.

I can say that if Porsche did give some good will (they tend to do this to keep owners in the Porsche network ) that it would be in the region of 20 % of parts .. possibly labour as well but i would expect parts only .

If you bought the units and fitted them yourself , which is pretty easy , then you would have already saved that amount .

If you had a warrenty and this was your only claim then i expect the cost of the warrenty would far outway the warrenty replacement .

Not a fight your are likely to win / is worth the energy on IMHO.

Just get some second hand units and fit them yourself, its a nearly 10 year old car, things will fail and won't be covered by a warranty :thumb:

This happens on the all red lenses fitted on sport models 07-08.
It is a known problem.

Wasting your time with porsche though imo on this one

Easy fix for this one, courtesy of Monster, just need to remove the two small grey stickers from the housing and problem solved.
