Purple ice anyone?

So thinking of engine coolant and the 996, instead of putting a low temp thermostat has anyone used purple ice coolant additive to maintain a lower temp? And reduce risk to engine? has it worked, checking off the a/c unit reading as I doubt that you could see it on the gauge accurately.

Would you want to runner lower on a 3.4?
 
I thought all 996 engines had potential to go oval and borescore etc which Was The point of running lower cylinder head temps?
 
3.6 are the ones (and later 3.8 on the 997).
 
Purple Ice won't drop the temp below the thermostat temp once the car's warmed up, that is controlled by the thermostat. A low temp stat will lower the normal operating temp but additives won't.

If it works at all, it will make it rise more slowly above that temp when travelling slowly or driving VERY hard.
 
My indie said no need to run the 3.4 cooler - but some people fit a low temperature thermostat anyway.
I haven't looked into the details, but given that whilst running cooler most engines over fuel, I've left mine alone.
 
Out of interst, does anyone know how running cooler affecrs the emissions? Is it still well within spec? Or does the ecu compensate?
