Silverstone Auction 1998 silver c2 manual brings 19k

 still toppy given the mileage.

I can only think that the buyer hadn't read the bit about the replacement speedo and hadn't noticed the apparent lack of service history over the last 8 years.

I think the £19k is with all commissions added, the hammer fell at £17k and even that is too much money for a car with unknown mileage, patchy history until 2009 and nothing after then!

As for the estimate, who knows where they got that figure from :dont know:

Web site has now changed it looks like the car wasn't sold after all..

Very unusual it was defo no reserve and was sold on the hammer now showing buy it now £20,700

It was a bit odd really with quite a few cars struggling to make their estimates and others significantly exceeding them. I think it was a good sale for Fords with a MK2 Escort RS2000 Custom making £87k (£97k after fees).

Not part of the auction but on sale with Graeme Hunt was this 993 RS Club Sport with a hefty £25k reduction - always nice to get a show price bargain!!

Even the auctioneers only describe it as "decent"..!

Some keen pricing on the blue 996 GT3 CS. Buy now at 55k. Is it the modifications that put folk off? If so I would have thought it could easily be restored to standard.

Perhaps the market has had enough of Porsche's. RS Fords seem to be a good place for the investors.

Let's hope so, then the investors can ***** off and stop pushing up prices for the genuine petrol heads.

... I doubt it though. Rare Pork has been under priced for years compared to Ferraris etc, upto about 5 years ago when things started to go daft.

What other company has the build quality and Motorsport history that Porsche has. Whether buyers are interested in the heritage or not it matters. The success has built the brand and the technology has filtered down to the road cars. In fact in the case of the GT3s and RSs the technology has made it to the road largely unfiltered. They are worth every penny.

Old fords are great for nostalgia but that's about it.

Had a look around this car on Friday, looked a really nice car cosmetically, didn't bother opening doors etc but underside was super clean too.

Good to see a 996 C2 at such a high profile event, liked them since 1997 and don't get the negative comments constantly wheeled out about them. Maybe I'll feel different when my IMS fails!
